You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...” -- Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go! (Amazing book for kids and adults)

Hello!

I hope you’re well!

This is your last Vestpod newsletter of the summer. We will miss you but we also need to take a break and prepare for September. We have so many new awesome projects and events planned 😎.

But first - why is it so important to switch off? This is certainly NOT something I would have said a few years ago. But now I have a family, a startup, a book... it’s pretty full on. Switching off is so hard because the boundaries between work and personal life for me are always blurred.
However, I have come to believe that you really do need a BREAK, for all these reasons and probably a thousand more: reducing stress, preventing burnout, increasing mental clarity, formulating new ideas and trying new activities.

So here’s my plan. My summer self-care manifesto 👀:

1/ Technology: cut off social media. Check my emails no more than once a day and schedule social media posts.
2/ Read mostly fiction (I read mostly non-fiction atm).
3/ Do some sports: surfing, yoga, running... whatever is available.
4/ Eat well, sleep well, but also go out and socialise.
5/ Meditate twice daily: this has been my only routine for the past 6 months and it’s amazing.

Maybe you fancy joining me in some of these? Whatever works for you...

🌟 In this week’s newsletter, we’ll look at the main money news of the week (Pound sterling and gold prices, interest rates); we are interviewing the amazing Rose Lander - Marketing & Events Executive Refinery29, followed by our anonymous money story, book reviews and events

PressWe are in Glamour this week! It’s a really good article about “these 25 tips will instantly reduce your money anxiety” and the book is mentioned as tip #4 “Pick up this money-making bible: If you need a little help understanding your attitude to money and working on, you know, making some more, you need to grab a copy of You're Not Broke You're Pre-Rich”. Thanks Kate!

Thank you! Have a good holiday 💛!

Could the pound crash to $1?
Before 2016’s Brexit vote the pound was trading at $1.50. It’s now barely scraping $1.25. With Boris Johnson’s leadership comes the real chance of a no-deal Brexit, and that could mean the pound falling even further against the dollar, making the prospect of currency parity a grim (for some) reality. CNN Business

Gold price hits six-year high
One ounce of gold reached $1,452.60 last week, the highest price in six years, as investors seek a “safe haven” amid fears of a US recession and trouble in the Persian gulf. Trading has also been boosted by a fall in the amount bonds are paying out, which traditionally makes gold prices rise.  The Guardian

Bank of England's Haldane 'very cautious' about cutting rates
Rumours of an interest rate cut are still just that, with the Bank of England’s chief economist saying he’d hold off on a loosening of monetary policy for the time being. Speaking at an event for local businesses in Scunthorpe, he confirmed that only a sharp economic downturn would make the Bank change tack, blaming Brexit uncertainty for confusion amongst rate-forecasters. "I was also so lucky to be raised by two working parents who were so passionate about what they did, I never even questioned that because I was a woman I couldn’t achieve all my professional goals or considered that I would have to compromise what I wanted to fit into a male dominated industry. Working with passionate, intelligent and motivated women at Refinery29 every day and creating exciting new projects through a female focussed lens with them is honestly a joy."
