Prevent injuries from adorable Oregon predators

Animals can present a substantial risk to workers.
During the upcoming week-long celebration of sharks, many of us wonder about our risks of shark attack.
The good news? Here in Oregon, most workers don’t have much to worry about when it comes to sharks. The bad news? There are other types of animals that present a substantial risk to workers around the state: cats and dogs.

Here are 5 ways to avoid getting injured:

Always ask the owner’s permission before approaching a pet.

Avoid reaching for pets through car windows—this could cause them to feel distress.

Approach them slowly and calmly. Or better yet, let the animal approach you on their own terms.

If a pet approaches you or solicits attention, pet gently.

Avoid animals if they’re demonstrating fearful or aggressive behavior.
