Ballard Multimodal Corridor

7/19/19 – Ballard Multimodal Corridor Construction Update

Crews plan to finish paving the north curb lane on NW Market St from 30th to 24th avenues NW over the next couple weeks, depending on weather conditions. Concrete demolition and paving in the center lane are expected to begin at the end of this month or early August.

As a reminder, traffic control is in effect on NW Market St between the intersection at NW 54th St and Ballard Ave NW, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction. Parking is not permitted on the north or south sides of the street between 30th Ave NW and Ballard Ave NW. These restrictions allow crews to complete work in a safe and efficient manner, and we expect them to remain in place through the fall. Please note that the temporary traffic configuration currently in place will change when the construction crews begin work on the center lane of traffic.
Upcoming work

Installation of transit poles east of 24th Ave NW is scheduled to continue into early August.

Crews plan to begin paving individual driveways on NW Market St next week. We will reach out to businesses individually to coordinate this work.

Paving for the center lane of NW Market St is expected to begin later this month or early August.

To complete paving work efficiently, crews are generally working between 7 AM and 10 PM, and working on some weekends. Some exceptions to these hours may be necessary due to crew shifts, material delivery, and construction priorities. Crews are working to complete the project as safely and as efficiently as possible, which may require some work outside of general work hours. We appreciate your patience regarding noise associated with this work.

As work continues along the project corridor and limits space for cyclists on the road, please remember to share the sidewalk and be aware of your surroundings.

King County Metro plans to do transit pole work in the project corridor in the coming weeks. For more information, visit their website or contact them directly.
What to expect during project construction

  • Noise, dust, concrete odors, and vibration
  • Access to businesses and residences will remain open, driveway restrictions will apply
  • Work is weather dependent, so timing of work may change if needed
Stay connected Thanks for your patience and support while we complete this project. We’re working to minimize construction impacts as much as possible.
Other Nearby Projects

West of the Ballard Multimodal construction zone, the Burke-Gilman Trail will be detoured near the 5500 block of Seaview Ave NW in Ballard beginning Monday, July 22. The Pump Station 43 Force Main Replacement project will detour the trail to Seaview Ave NW for 100 to 150 feet. This detour will be in place for three months. Lanes on Seaview Ave NW will be narrowed to accommodate both the trail detour and two-way vehicle traffic.

In summer of 2020, we will be paving NW Market St between 24th Ave NW and 15th Ave NW. This project includes sidewalk repairs, curb ramp upgrades, water main replacements, and stormwater drainage improvements. To find out more, and to sign up for project emails, visit our NW Market St webpage.
