Vale Peter Toohey

It was good to share our memories and photos of Peter Toohey following the shock of his passing. He will be remembered as a man whose life made a difference, especially to those marginalised in our society.

He was drawn to those whom society rejected, serving in the prison ministry for more than two decades, supporting refugees in practical ways and delighting in the company of those with special needs. He will be greatly missed.

News from the Board 

At the L’Arche National Board meeting our request for a grant to pay the stipend for a Community Life Leader was agreed. We would like to acknowledge the help we received from Greg Smith, Chair of the Sydney Community, who worked on our budget predictions and spoke in support of our grant application at the meeting. L’Arche Perth will need to fundraise for the living expenses incurred. All that stands in the way now is the visa process which is being handled by national Leader, David Treanor.

As you know Vera Waldby has stepped back into the Chair role until we find a permanent replacement. Our hope of repeating the earlier discernment process has not yielded any likely candidates so we have begun to advertise and spread the word among our networks. If you know of anyone who would be able to take up this position, please let Vera know (0407 383 085). The board would also like to expand from 6 to 8 members so please cast around among your networks for possible candidates and Vera will send them the position descriptions.
