Interbeing Sangha

Weekly Meeting

Please note, there will be no sangha meeting this Sunday, July 21st (brief hiatus due to summer activities occupying our bell minders). Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place Sunday, July 28th for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Anne Coward will be our bell minder.
Lovingkindness

"The first element of true love is loving kindness. The essence of loving kindness is being able to offer happiness. You can be the sunshine for another person. You can’t offer happiness until you have it for yourself. So build a home inside by accepting yourself and learning to love and heal yourself. Learn how to practice mindfulness in such a way that you can create moments of happiness and joy for your own nourishment. Then you have something to offer the other person."

Community Request

August Retreat

Melissa from Peterborough has asked if any Kingston friends
are travelling to
Blue Cliff in August for the retreat for the purpose of carpooling: "My name is Melissa. I am planning on going to Blue Cliff for the August retreat mini US Tour. I drive my own van with my hands as I live with quadriplegia and am hoping to find some folks to carpool with. Please connect with me at your earliest convenience if you want to share the driving." melissawebster1978@yahoo.ca

Book Project Outreach

Walking with Thay

Mary Hillebrand and Jeanine Cogan are excited to tell us about a new book project, Walking with Thay, in which students of Thich Nhat Hanh share their journeys of transformation as a result of following Thay’s teachings. The book will be a compilation of first-person short stories of how we were touched, moved, and inspired by Thay.
Mary and Jeanine ask that you:
1) Submit your story for consideration.
2) Spread the word and build momentum! Pass this email on to other students of Thay. To learn more visit our website for more information about submitting a story to this project, and stay tuned for more details.
The Art of Offering Happiness

"In a friendship, we try to to offer our friend happiness. Sometimes you think that you’re doing something for someone else’s happiness, when actually your action is making them suffer. The willingness to make someone happy isn’t enough. You have your own idea of happiness. But to make someone else happy, you have to understand that person’s needs, suffering, and desires and not assume you know what will make them happy. Ask, “What would make you happy?”

Our sangha has two teams helping to share leadership and facilitation of our meetings. Our Bell Minders Team are mindful facilitators for our weekly gatherings, as well as retreats, taking beautiful care of our friends in the practice including the bell. Our Sangha Care Team facilitates sangha care meetings, plans retreats, minds our library and resources, and coordinates outreach. If you are interested in helping with either or both, contact interbeingkingston@gmail.com for more information.
