About #ChasingMemories - And how you can join from anywhere

Join us in #ChasingMemories - our quest to document 10,000 stories.
Ten years ago, when we first started this work, the story of Partition was nearly forgotten from public memory.  Media mentions, books and film had dropped to a trickle. This was unacceptable to some of us. How could we sit back and watch this history that forms the core of many of our identities--whether we recognize it or not--disappear in front of our eyes, into the mists of time?  Some of us decided to get up and do something about it.  We volunteered endlessly, and even left our careers to ensure witness accounts are not forgotten.  We began documenting oral histories in 2010. But this work cannot be done by volunteer service alone.  Resources are required. To gather resources for this work, several volunteers gathered to launch the #ChasingMemories campaign.  Our goal is to document 10,000 families' stories and we are 80% of the way there.

The idea for #ChasingMemories was born with a 200 km run by long time Citizen Historian volunteer, Kamaldeep Sandhu.  He ran to honor his grandmother's 200 km journey on foot in 1947.  He raised funds for each km he ran, to help document more oral histories like hers. Now 17 others have joined Kamaldeep in #ChasingMemories. Some are swimming, some are biking, some are making art works, and so on.  The youngest campaigner is 15 year old Anudeep Sharma, running to honor his great grand father's memories. Together they are building immense momentum and pooling resources to document one story at a time.
