STOP PRESS

A message has just come through that the Eudunda Waste Transfer Facility will be open from this Saturday. Congratulations to the Regional Council of Goyder for thier speedy work

RUBBISH - Don't Panic - It Will Be Solved Soon

"The Eudunda Waste Transfer Facility is temporarily closed until further notice"

That was the rather unexpected and abrupt message some first seen on the Regional Council of Goyder Facebook page. The message went on to say
"In the meantime the following transfer stations will still be available-
BURRA
Sunday 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Tuesday 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Thursday 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Turn off located opposite Burra Hospital retirement homes off of Commercial Street, Burra
HALLETT- Open FIRST SUNDAY of EACH MONTH:
Sunday 10:00 am – 12:00pm
Heading north turn right onto North Terrace, continue over intersection approx. ½ km on the left hand side"

This alternative caused a fair bit of online discussion and discontent. After all, to access these transfer stations would cost Southern Goyder Residents a considerable amount extra in travel. In hindsight, at least there are some alternatives, even if not attractive or economic to all.

As the situation came about just before the monthly Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism Committee (ECBAT) meeting we were able to ask more about the situation.

The closure is 'Temporary' as the notice stated. The cause has been the dumping of some illegal waste which has to be removed. This may take a while for the Council to arrange, as it has to be treated properly.

At this stage it is believed that the transfer point should be open within a couple weeks.
If anyone has any queries, please contact the Burra Office of the Regional Council of Goyder 08 8892 0100

Susan Takes Eudunda Probus On Language Tour

The Probus Club of Eudunda & District's Guest Speaker, Susan Moore, (Rodney and Fay Grosser's daughter) gave an illustrated talk on her and her husband David Moore's involvement, working with the Aboriginal communities around Alice Springs. They teach languages at the Alice Springs Language Centre where Susan is the Principal and David is a Linguist.

Susan also spoke of her daughter and her trip to the Kimberly Ranges where they studied land management with regenerative growth and wild donkeys at the remote Kachana Station, 120km South-West of Kununurra where they met Chris & Jacqueline Henggeler and their family. This station is so remote that it is only accessible by foot, horse-back, donkey or plane.

Google Doodle Celebrates Kaurna and Ngadjuri Woman's 115th Birthday

The 27th August 2019 saw Google's Doodle celebrate Australian Aboriginal community leader Gladys Elphick, known as “Aunty Glad,” she had dedicated herself towards social justice in Australia.

Born on this day in 1904, a proud Kaurna and Ngadjuri woman, she became the founding president of the Council of Aboriginal Women of South Australia, bringing about important social reforms.

Thank you Google for recognizing this South Australian identity and bringing her life to our attention. What makes this story most relevant is that of her link to the Ngadjuri whom used to live in this area of Southern Goyder.

Cyclists Can't Get Enough Of Eudunda Area

Inspired by the fantastic ride the Uncool Cycling Club did recently on much of the Lavender Federation Trail, (see article in the ECBAT news #66), thier leader Helen Dominish organised a group of 12 cyclists to ride in the Eudunda area. This time they rode from Eudunda to the historic homestead and grounds of Anlaby Station, where they had a chance to relax for morning tea and hear about the history of Anlaby. From there the group continuing on South to Kapunda,

These cyclists are pioneers, who not only ride, but many are determined to leave a legacy, by developing new cycling trails, and they have plans to help our local community to do so locally.

Trevor Mathews, a Lavender Federation Trail (LFT) Board member and Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism (ECBAT) Committee Member said'
"The Eudunda Community are pleased to see the cyclists come and enjoy our beautiful scenery and some of our local shops have already seen the benefits. It is an exciting time, and we are working with the group to establish more formal, recognised cycling or multi-purpose trails in the area, to increase tourism."

The group has already set up a Facebook page called the "Eudunda Hampden Rail Trail" which has attracted a fair amount of interest.

At the moment that part of the trail is not open to ride on. Walkers are only permitted to walk along the fence line.

ECBAT and the South Australian Recreation Trails Inc (SARTI) who developed the Lavender Federation Trail (LFT), and the Uncool Cycling Group are in the process of seeking permission to cover the rail line ballast so that it will be suitable for riding and walking on, including with prams and pushers. If this can be achieved there is great potential for further cycling loop trails, with three already planned once the rail line can be opened up.

Uncool Cycling Club relax at Anlaby Station Tea Rooms

The Uncool Cycling had a great time and was inspired by thier ride on our back roads and especially the visit to Anlaby. Some people plan to return to spend much more time at the Anlaby Open Garden which will be on the 19th & 20th October, (See Advert above).

Eudunda Bowlers Gearing Up For New Season

As the new season approaches, Eudunda bowlers are coming out of hibernation, especially for the Kapunda Winter Cup series of matches during August and September. Eudunda had a successful start the first week on August 2nd, with both the Men’s and Ladies teams winning. In fact the men’s team comprising Bill Mader, Mally Schutz, Gordon ‘Kiwi’ Te.Au, and Geoff Schmidt won 32-8 against Two Wells, one shot shy of winning the day! All members please bring food for the high tea to follow.

On Sunday 20th October, a sponsored Fun Day at 10 for 10.30am start is sure to be a hit with three novelty games and good prize money given. Casual dress should add to the frivolity. Please put your names on the sheet in the clubhouse.
