Dear Friend of Pendon,
September highlight
A feature of locomotive development in Britain in the first half of the 20th century was the occasional exchange of locomotives between companies. The primary purpose was to share and test alternative technical designs as a means of furthering locomotive development and raising overall performance. An example is the working of LNER “A1” class 4-6-2 No. 4474 on the Great Western which was a part of the 1925 locomotive exchange between the GWR and the LNER in April and May that year. This train is featured in the banner at the top of the Newsletter. You can find full details and a wealth of images here.
Additional Friends Evening on 30 November
You are probably aware that we have produced 3D photographs of Pendon in the last year or so. One person who has helped with his advice is Denis Pellerin of the London Stereoscopic Company and Denis has recently completed a lecture tour featuring stereographs of Victorian working class women. Denis has kindly offered to show and discuss the significance of these photos at a Friends Evening. This will be on 30 November.  Full details and booking can be found here.
Recent additions to the Friends Place
You will find all recent additions listed here - along with a link to each of them to make them easy to find. We update this list every time something is added.
Friends of Pendon continues to grow
During August the total number of new Friends joining so far in 2019 passed 110 - a record for recent years! We welcome all these new members and thank them for their support, as well as thanking all Friends for their continuing support.

The next Friends Newsletter will be published on 1 October and will have advance information about our 2020 Modelling Workshops and some 2020 Friends Events.

Best wishes from all in the Friends of Pendon team.
