Dance Term of the Week: The "Frog Leap"

One of the Africanisms in New World Culture that is most explicit in African American culture is the naming of dances for animals. From the Camel Walk and Fish Tails of the 1930's to the Pony and the Bird of the 50's and 60's, our movements and expressions have often been mirrored the natural world. In this video, our 4 students who attended dance camp in Sweden from June 29th-July 12th can be seen doing an air step named for a frog at 32seconds. Enjoy!
Guardian Baltimore students attended Herrang Dance Camp in Herrang, Sweden earlier this month. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The Dance Card

Last week's newsletter had a typo. We are introducing 2 new Moving History teachers to the Guardian Baltimore team, not 3. Meet our other new teacher, Jae Yoo.
Jae Yoo graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in 2017. He is a skilled software developer with a passion for dancing and other fun things. Say hello at your next class session!
