Site Expansion Update

Since 2011, the Children’s Treatment Centre has continuously requested government funding for a new building due to significant caseload and program growth, and to provide the best service and facility for our community.

We thank our donors for the fantastic local fundraising support, but in order to proceed, we also need the government funding.

We wish to keep the community informed. Here are our capital facts:

Construction:

The Children’s Treatment Centre has a sign posted on our desired new location on McNaughton Ave. East, however, we have not broken ground due to the need for provincial funding.  (The new construction underway on McNaughton Ave West is the St. Angela Merici Catholic Elementary School).

Funding:
In order to start construction, our Children’s Treatment Centre requires both local fundraising and government funding. The local fundraising has been fantastic and we are very grateful for the generous donors.

We are competing for provincial funding, and advocating to be considered a priority with support from our local MPP Rick Nicholls and MPP Monte McNaughton.

How to help:
Client and family ambassadors will be reaching out to ask for letters of support.  Visit the Family Advisory section on our web site, or contact Ashley at 519-354-0520 ext. 158.

Highlighting Programs offered at the Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent

Challenger Baseball - Playing Ball and Creating Opportunities

Did you know the Children's Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent offers recreational programs for children with developmental disabilities? Challenger Baseball is a program that provides an opportunity for children, youth and adults with cognitive and/or physical disabilities to enjoy the full benefits of participating in baseball at a level structured to their abilities. Each week during the season, the young Challenger players have the chance to each get up to bat and run the bases.... it is a great team sport within a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.

On August 2, 2019 fans packed the stands at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham for the annual Challenger Baseball season finale. The program is run in partnership with the Chatham Minor Baseball Association.

The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent provides recreational opportunities for children with special needs to develop life-long skills and knowledge in the areas of recreation and leisure. Recreational programs are only available to children who are active clients on the recreation caseload. If you have any questions please contact Alison Munro at 519-354-0520 Ext 281.

Wellness Wednesday Program

Wellness Wednesday focused on physical and mental health and well-being by accessing community services and supports.  This program included hiking nature trails in CK, yoga, fitness training, healthy eating, mindfulness, and more.  We established partnerships with the following community agencies during this group: Access Open Minds, Body Language CK, YMCA, Peak Fitness, Chatham Minor Baseball Association - Fieldhouse, and CK Library.

"Wellness Wednesdays were awesome! Since attending that program she has become much more conscious of her personal hygiene. She also loved Peak Athletic and got me to start exercising with her at home. Would love to do this one again.”

THE CHILDREN’S TREATMENT CENTRE OF CHATHAM-KENT IS BURSTING AT THE SEAMS! WE NEED TO RAISE $6 MILLION TO BUILD A LARGER FACILITY.

YOU CAN HELP!

Every year, the CTC-CK provides specialized therapy to over 4,000 children, in 15 Chatham-Kent communities, from birth through to age 21.

In recent years, the number of children needing CTC-CK services has increased dramatically. Our present facility is being utilized far beyond our capacity. From hearing and speech therapy to autism services, physiotherapy and occupational therapy...over 4,000 local children access CTC-CK’s services every year. We strive to give every child an equal chance of living life to the fullest.

You will be surprised to learn that 1,300 children who need our services are on a waiting list because there is not enough space in our present facility to treat them. The new 50,000 sq ft facility will shorten waiting lists so more kids get therapy sooner.
