Beer Sailing Club Newsletter
July has been a busy month at Beer Sailing Club. The weather has been mostly fine and we've had excellent conditions for sailing. We've had two instalments of our development sailing series with suppers, a French-themed Allo Allo evening, a heap of club racing and sociable bar opening times.

The beach has been busy with plenty of sailing activity. The beach is now quite well organised with boats making full use of all the extra decking walkways. Stand up paddleboard storage until the end of September is available in the Sailing Club Beach Shed for £10 (limited spaces available). Contact Sarah Taylor for availability. Don't forget that Race Hut Duty guidance is available on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Contact Hugh Sutherland for more details.

Beer Regatta week is not far away. We will send a dedicated email to cover all of the events in an email next week. Further details will also be published on the noticeboard in the clubhouse. The regatta is swiftly followed by a Sailing Development Day and Supper so standby for a fun-packed August.
Development Sailing And Supper

The 3rd Development event was held in a building sea breeze and glorious sunshine. Delightfully flat water and sunny skies greeted all the sailors who took to the water in 2 Bahias, 2 RS200s, 2 Lasers and 4 Picos. As the breeze freshened, there were a few thrills and spills as several sailors got to enjoy some great rides. Once everyone was safely ashore and packed away, everyone headed to the sailing club for a lovely round of Fish and Chips.

The 4th event in the series was held in slightly trickier conditions on the 27th of July.  Once again, the whole fleet was launched carrying 16 keen sailors took to the water. All eager to learn and aided by 6 experienced sailors. There was also plenty more help on the water from the 6 capable crew in 3 patrol hands, plus a timely return to Beer Beach for the lovely lugger Mary.

There were only 3 capsizes apart from Clara’s capsize drills with Robert L (all-round bon oeuf) and a successful race was completed, with all 10 dinghies taking part, to finish the afternoon. There were 5 prizes awarded later in the clubhouse for various achievements and a good time was had by all.

All the action was overseen from the Balcony by the Race hut team while several more beach hands helped everything run smoothly on the shore.

A big thank you to all who helped on both days.
Looe Lugger Regatta 6th and 7th July 2019
Congratulations to Christopher and Heather Adkin on winning Looe Lugger Regatta in their pretty little clinker dinghy, Brenda Jean, designed and built by Justin Adkin and lovingly preserved by Christopher’s efforts this winter. The Brenda Jean was the star of the show, attracting admiring comments from both fellow competitors and spectators. And to cap it all, Christopher and Heather, representing Beer SC, sailed away to 3 race wins on handicap to bring home the winning trophy. Well Done Both :-)
Cafe Rene Evening
Beer Sailing Club welcomed entertainment from the Moonstone Theatre company in the shape of an Allo Allo themed evening. Thanks to our wonderful members who produced the food. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
