4th District Updates

Sanitary Sewer work continues on Lansdowne Drive in front of the Signature Club. Work is being done during the overnight hours and is expected to be completed by August 9th.

* * * * * * *

Residents and drivers along Wilson Downing Road, Laredo Dive, Lancelot Lane and nearby streets will notice construction work in the area over the next few weeks. The project will reduce sanitary sewer overflows in the area, leading to a cleaner environment and a reduction in water pollution

* * * * * * *

The Malabu Drive at Tates Creek Road remains closed while a new bridge is constructed there. The project is expected to take several more weeks to complete.

* * * * * * *

The Fayette County PVA's office will be driving through some neighborhoods inspecting the exterior of homes between now and December. This is in preparation for 2020 property tax values. The resulting reassessment notices will be mailed approximately April 15, 2020. Learn more about the assessment process at www.fayettepva.com

* * * * * * *

Kentucky American Water will continue opening and flushing hydrants. This is part of the normal maintenance for the water distribution system and helps remove natural sediment that builds up in the pipes over time. See when work may be going on in your area using the online map.

Council District 4

Lexington's 4th Urban County Council District is diverse, with residents who care for their community. Nestled between Tates Creek and Nicholasville Roads, the 4th District spans from just south of the Arboretum all the way to the Jessamine County line. The District includes several schools and public parks, a public golf course, a hospital, and a public library. The District is home to a variety of neighborhood, condo, townhome and homeowner associations, and enjoys some of the area's most popular shopping and dining destinations.

Lexington Family Services

Did you know that Lexington's Family Care Center provides services to families with young children?

The Family Care Center provides an intensive case management program for families with young children through case management for parents.

The Family Care Center provides full-day, quality childcare for children six weeks to four years of age.

The Family Care Center provides in-home services for new and expectant parents. This home visitation program is for parents who are expecting or have recently had a baby. It teaches new and expecting parents about health, pregnancy, home safety, bonding, and infant development.

The Family Care Center offers a teen parent education program that helps young mothers learn parenting and life skills while completing requirements for a high school diploma.

The Family Care Center is home to a University of Kentucky primary care clinic that serves pediatric patients.

Volunteers are always needed, and there is a running wishlist of items the Center can use to provide additional support to help families get started on the right foot.

To learn more about their services and to take a look at how you can help, visit www.lexingtonky.gov/family-care-center.

Lexington Safe Streets

The City of Lexington has launched a social media campaign to encourage roadway users - drivers, cyclists and pedestrians - to get around safely.

Safe Streets is a campaign designed to make Lexington’s roadways safe for all users – motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The campaign was first launched in 2017 with social media ads, traffic box wraps, yard signs and sidewalk stencils. Later this summer, the campaign will expand to include signs with safe cycling tips at key locations and distribution of clip-on lights and reflectors to cyclists and pedestrians.

Safe Streets is funded by the City of Lexington and a Paula Nye Memorial Bicyclist and Pedestrian Education Grant. These grants are funded by sales of Kentucky’s Share the Road license plate and managed by the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeways Commission.

Visit https://www.lexingtonky.gov/SafeStreets to learn more about the program and how you can get involved.

Crime Free Multi-Housing Program Seminar

Property owners, apartment managers, directors and maintenance personnel are invited to attend this free seminar to help address crime reduction on and in rental properties and improving the quality of living conditions for residents. Personnel from Code Enforcement, Tenant Services, the Police and Fire Departments, along with attorneys and special guest speakers will be there for you and your questions!

The seminar will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, August 21 at the Lexington Police Department – West Sector, 1795 Old Frankfort Pike. Lunch will be provided.

Please email the pre-registration form to CFMHprogram@lexingtonpolice.ky.gov or fax to (859) 425-2007 to the attention of Officer Bean.

Lex ID Me

The Lexington Police Department needs the community's help in identifying crime suspects. Cases are featured on the LexIDme website with video or photographic evidence that links person(s) with an alleged crime, such as a theft or some other type of criminal activity.

If you recognize someone or have additional information about a case, you can submit a tip through the page. The tip will go directly to the case detective. You may also call 859-258-3600 to speak directly with an officer or submit a tip anonymously through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.

Contact the police Public Information Office or visit www.lexingtonky.gov/lexidme for more information.

Only recycle these items.

Lexington continues the temporary suspension of its paper recycling program, but a recycling program jump-start is on the way.

Because the market is currently saturated, the city is not accepting paper for recycling. So with the exception of dry corrugated cardboard, any paper received at the recycle center will be sent to the landfill for the time being.

In the meantime, reducing paper waste as much as possible is the best solution.

Remember that plastic bottles, tin cans and dry corrugated cardboard are still recyclable.

Stay up to date on the status of Lexington's paper recyclables at lexingtonky.gov/recycleupdates
