2019 VBS "To Mars and Beyond"- Thursday through Saturday, July 25-27
Thursday and Friday will be from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Light meals will be provided.
One small step for your kids...one giant leap for God's Kingdom! Blast off with the first VBS to land on the moon, Mars and beyond! Cokesbury's To Mars and Beyond will help kids discover the wonders of God's universe. They'll become Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God's power can take them. They'll lift off to distant planets on special missions to collect power sources. Along the way, they'll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them. Add to the adventure with out-of-this-world fun, learning, and timeless Bible stories that inspire kids to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine!
2019 Sacramento Youth Assembly - "Under Pressure: James 1:2-4"
The La Trinidad Youth Group will be attending the Sacramento Youth Assembly in New Mexico, from July 15-19. We have eleven youth going as campers and two sponsors, Rev. Raquel C. Feagins and Mrs. Laura Ayala. There will be a prayer and send-off at the 11:00 a.m. service on July 14. The youth group will be leaving later on Sunday around midnight. La Trinidad has coordinated the charter buses to transport the 87 campers this year from Las Misiones District and Austin. We pray that all youth will have a great time as they connect with God, make new friends, and grow in their faith.
Children's Ministry
Our Children's Ministry group wants to thank Gabriel & Iris Lomas for hosting the children’s end of school party at their home and to Abby Gutierrez for coordinating the event! All our families that attended had a great time and it was a great way to kick-off summer.
The Rio Texas Conference is offering a children's summer camp through Sierra Vista UMC at Camp Butman near Merkel, TX, from July 28-August 1, for children in 3rd grade- 9th grade. If you are interested in more information, please see the following link to the website with more information. We are not currently planning to take a group; however, I thought some of our families might be interested learning more about this event. http://www.sierravista.org/camp-ministries

On Saturday, August 10th, our Membership Tea, will be celebrated from 2-4:00 pm. The theme is “Pop on over, and join United Methodist Women!” This program will highlight some historical aspects of our local unit, and welcome members that are new and/or returning to active membership. We will share refreshing, cool foods and popsicles! What a great way to share a hot summer afternoon!
We are getting ready to have a two-day rummage sale in September, and welcome donations of items to sell as well as attendance, as we will have some delicious meals to share in conjunction with our sale. Mark your calendars for September 21 & 22! The membership will be selling tickets for these meals. Thank you for your continued support of our UMW! Adelante!
Río Texas Chooses 3 from LT General Conference and Jurisdictional Conference
The Rio Texas Conference of the UMC met from June 5-8 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Clergy and lay delegates conducted balloting to choose delegates and alternates to the 2020 United Methodist General Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the South Central Jurisdiction.
For the first time in the church's history, three individuals related to La Trinidad UMC were chosen to serve on the same conference delegation.
Rev. Raquel C. Feagins was elected on the 5th ballot as the 3rd of 4 clergy delegates to General Conference. She is the first pastor to be elected while serving at La Trinidad UMC and the second Latina clergyperson from this episcopal area to be chosen (after Rev. Minerva Carcaño, 1996).
Iris Chavez, Wesley Nurse and missions chair, was elected on the 15th ballot as the 8th of 8 lay delegates to the South Central Jurisdiction.
Abigail Gutierrez, church council chair, was chosen as a lay alternate to the South Central Jurisdiction.
Please remember these leaders in prayer as they represent our community and mission in the regional structures of the United Methodist Church.
Other individuals currently related to La Trinidad UMC who have served as delegates to General Conference in previous years include Bishop Joel Martinez, Rev. Roberto Gomez, Rev. Arturo Mariscal, Rev. Dan Rodriguez, Rev. Liz Lopez, Rev. Virgilio Vazquez-Garza, and Oscar O. Garza IV.
Giving Statements
Second quarter year to date giving statements will be available the next two Sundays at La Trinidad UMC from financial secretary Laura Prangner. Statements that are not personally picked up over the next two Sundays will be sent through the U.S. postal service.
According to church treasurer Sandra Pacheco,
Year to date, $126,591 has been given toward the General Fund. This is 93% of the goal, $8916 less than our six-month goal of $135,507 needed to fully fund the budget. At the same time, expenses from the general fund have been $8018 less than estimates. This means we have had a total negative cash flow of $898 in the general fund over the first six months.
Undesignated capital improvement actual income was $7,570. This is an increase of $2,270 over the budget estimate of $5,300.
Designated capital improvement donations were $5,437. Expenses have been $49,618.
How You Can Help La Trinidad
Overcome the Summer Slump
Summer can be a challenging time for churches as attendance can drop as utility and some maintenance costs increase. Summer is also a time of opportunities when new people move into the area and begin seeking a church home.
Here are some things you can do to help LT avoid the "Summer Slump."
Pray daily for the ministry and congregation of La Trinidad UMC and be intentional about being present for worship when in town.
Consider joining a Sunday School class or starting a small group Bible study or fellowship group.
Invite friends or new residents to church, an event, or fellowship group who do not already have a church home.
If traveling, watch the Sunday services on YouTube, and leave a comment or remark to show you were there.
If you desire to contribute while out of town, please consider using our new online giving platform to make an offering or gift. You can use the link below to access the "Donate" button. http://www.latrinidadchurch.com/get-connected/giving/ .
Church Calendar
La Trinidad UMC uses a Google Calendar to schedule events at the church and for the congregation. The calendar is embedded in our church website. Interested in seeing what's happening? This link will take you right there: http://www.latrinidadchurch.com/calendar/
