Beat the summer heat by drinking water!

Water is essential for overall health. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. Water is important for our bodies to function properly:

  • Keeps our heart from working too hard
  • Protects our brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissues
  • Regulates body temperature
  • Lubricates and cushions joints
  • Transports nutrients
  • Aids digestion and prevents constipation
  • Removes waste through urine, perspiration, and bowel movements
  • Water is Life MNI WICONI
Choose water over sugar-sweetened beverages, like soda and sports drinks. Water has zero calories and can help with weight management.
Here are some tips from DIHFS staff to help increase your water intake:
  • Have a reusable water bottle handy and refill as needed
  • Keep your water cool with ice
  • Flavor your water with fruit, vegetables, or herbs such as berries, cucumbers, or mint
  • Have water intake goals throughout the day or use a phone app to remind you to drink water
