Let's Unite for Parkinson's - Together we can make a difference!

Dear Shake It Up Supporter,

On behalf of all of us at Shake It Up I’d like to say a very big thank you to everyone who donated to support Parkinson’s research over the past year. We are humbled by the generosity of so many individuals and companies who like us share a vision for improved treatments that will slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s, ultimately leading us to a cure.

I am looking forward to trekking the Larapinta trail with some of our community fundraisers at the end of August. The beauty and tranquillity of the Australian landscape has always inspired me and meeting other participants with Parkinson’s and their family members and friends on the trek is an added bonus as we gather together for a common cause. If you would like to support me with my personal challenge, you can make a donation here.

Many of you will remember the fabulous Neil Diamond Tribute concert that was held last year by the talented Peter Byrne to support Shake It Up. This year we are excited to have Aussie rock legends The Angels performing a Shake It Up for Parkinson’s special concert supported by Australian singer-songwriter Russell Morris. The Angels guitarist, John Brewster, developed a connection with Parkinson’s after a chance encounter with Muhammad Ali on a plane in the US in 1985. You can read more about John’s conversation here.

This very special concert is being held at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Sunday 22 September from 2pm. Join us for an afternoon of Aussie rock hits like Mr Damage, Shadow Boxer and Will I Ever See Your Face Again. Tickets are available from Ticketek. I hope to see you there.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards
Clyde Campbell

There are three real loves in my life, it's family and friends, automation and robotics, and to find a cure for Parkinson's. For me, that's enough reasons for me to get out of bed with a smile on my face every day.

Podcast - The Immune System in Parkinson's

The immune system is supposed to keep us healthy, but in Parkinson’s it may be too much of a good thing. MJFF Contributing Editor Dave Iverson moderates a conversation with MJFF CEO Todd Sherer, PhD, and Jeff Bronstein, MD, PhD, director of the Movement Disorders Program at the University of California, Los Angeles where they discuss:

  • The overall function of the immune system
  • How the immune system and inflammation may play a role in Parkinson’s disease

The Monkey Mia Boys are Taking on the Canning Stock Route

You might remember the team who last year rode their motorbikes from Monkey Mia to Byron Bay along remote tracks to raise funds for Parkinson's. Well, this year they are traversing two of the most isolated tracks in Australia - the Canning Stock Route and the Anne Beadell Highway through five deserts - Tanami, Great Sandy, Little Sandy, Gibson and Great Victoria.
