Inaugural HubCon a success
The inaugural HubCon, a family-friendly pop culture festival held 12-14 July, was a great success with almost 1800 attendees across three days. Hosted by special guests, Stephanie ‘Hex’ Bendixsen and Ben Sorensen, HubCon highlights included a tremendous participation in Cosplay; comic book masterclasses; video gaming tournaments with Super Smash Bros; the collector’s market; a zombie make up tutorial and many engaging panels and workshops, particularly the author talk with Emily Rodda (Jennifer Rowe) around Deltora Quest. Friday night’s AWF Wrestling Superslam was also a smash hit! The Blue Mountains Theatre team are grateful for community support of the event and are now planning ways to make the next HubCon even better.

Choose your favourite playground equipment
Try our Community consultation has commenced for Glenbrook District Park Playground – Stage 2. Use our online tool – the Funbobulator –  to tell us what type of playground equipment you would like at the park. This interactive, digital tool lists different types of equipment and how much these pieces of equipment cost.  Responses will help designers understand what sorts of playground equipment should be included in the upgrade. Go to yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/glenbrook-playspace for more information. Our Funbobulator will be open for submissions until Thursday, 1 August 2019.

A little help from our friends
Glenbrook Year 6 student Ann Walker was undaunted by the formality of a council session, as she aided the Mayor Mark Greenhill at the Council meeting on 25 June. The St Finbar's student and School Captain, who is studying the different levels of Australian government for a school project, assisted the Mayor with the Mayoral Minutes at the meeting.

Voice, Truth, Treaty: NAIDOC Week 2019

Guest speakers included Gundungurra Elder Aunty Sharyn Halls and Darug artist Leanne Tobin (pictured) who spoke passionately on this year’s theme of Voice, Truth, Treaty. Aunty Pat Field received the NAIDOC Recognition Award for Person of the Year for her extensive work in the community and the NAIDOC Youth Award went to Olivia Eynon for her support of programs run by the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Culture & Resource Centre.
