Welcome to a special mid month/post All Star Week edition of our newsletter The Scorecard. We had a great week and we will recap next month. But since baseball never sleeps, here is what we have scheduled for the rest of the month. First, lets revisit June.
June Highlights
Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation D Day Commemoration
June 6th
Under the umbrella of the Bob Feller Act of Valor Foundation the U.S. Navy, the Cleveland Indians and the Baseball Heritage Museum joined together at League Park to salute and thank those who served during WWII. This D-Day Remembrance ceremony honored over 100 men and women of the Greatest Generation.
The Park looked its best and after the ceremony we welcomed veterans and their family and friends into the Museum. Stop by soon and see the Traveling Exhibit on loan from the Foundation honoring players who served as well.
Two days later there was another celebration at League Park.First Pitch of Summer, presented by Progressive and KeyBank and hosted by Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, led off the 2019 summer of baseball by celebrating Cleveland’s rich baseball heritage. 1,200 community members “pitched” a baseball from historic League Park to Progressive Field, and many of those made thier first visit to the BHM.
Here are some pictures courtesy of GCSC.
Carlos Baerga threw out the first pitch and the ball was on its way!
Father's Day 2019
Dogs with Dad
Thanks to the 300+ people who shared Father's Day afternoon with us. We loved seeing all the families. Dads and dad figures got free hot dogs and the Tribe Hot Dogs joined us. It was fun and silly and it brought many people into the Museum to learn the important stories we have to share.

Pride Day at the BHM
June 23
"I want to commend the Baseball Heritage Museum for holding a Pride event recently. I have visited a number of area museums over the years doing research, book signings, etc. BHM is, by far, the only one to acknowledge the existence of the gay community." Jim Mollenkoph, Author
"As a father I greatly appreciate the BHM recognizing Pride Day" Thomas F.
"This is awesome thank you" Roger W.
"Thank you BHM" Ben Z. "I have enjoyed every visit to the museum and events like this just make me like you guys even more. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the fantastic programming you guys do!"Brian S.
This was our second year participating in Cleveland Foundation's Common Ground. This year's topic My Environment Was..My Environment Is..My Environment Will Be.. was a perfect conversation generator for a location with our rich history, our busy present, and our plans for the future.
These were the graphics we used to drive the conversation among a diverse and engaged group of attendees. Like what you see here and want to learn more? We would be happy to schedule a presentation for your group or organization.
Author Jim Mollenkopf will be at the Museum for a book signing.
This is not a formal presentation but it is a chance to meet the author of the book that will help you experience July 13, 1954 as it happened.
Reservations not required.

Here is a book many can relate to if they have a connection to baseball. This is a book about memories of watching together as a family, meeting stars, and playing the game. At its heart, it is a human interest book in a baseball setting, filled with stories that will make you laugh, occasionally cry, and remind you of how baseball, in some magical way, connects so many of us. Be ready to share you own stories as well.
Meet the author and celebrate Rocky’s birthday with us!
Rocky captivated fans during the 1950s and 1960s with his movie-star looks, boyish enthusiasm, powerful batting and cannon-like arm. "Rocky Colavito: Cleveland's Iconic Slugger" by Mark Sommer is the first comprehensive biography of "the Rock" in more than a half century.
The Museum was a proud sponsor of The Return of Rocky Colavito at the State Theater on July 5th. If you were there you know it was a magical night. Here is Rocky with Director of Education Joe Gazzo and Administrator Margaret Reardon. Read about the event here
