It was the South Wales Argus Pride of Gwent awards last week.

The annual ceremony showcases the incredible individuals and groups within our communities who make a difference to people’s lives.

I was delighted to co-sponsor and present the ‘999 Hero Award’ to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, alongside Temporary Chief Constable, Pam Kelly.

Congratulations to all those who received awards for your contribution and commitment.

Summer engagement

Our summer engagement programme is continuing, with my office already engaging with just under 4,000 people so far.

Last weekend, we spent the day at Maindee Festival and Monmouth Show, while this Saturday (13 July), we will be at Pontypool’s ‘Party in the Park’ and Chepstow’s ‘DJs in the Bandstand’.

If you are attending, pop over to say hello, learn more about my police and crime priorities, and grab some crime prevention freebies.

PCC Surgery - Blaenau Gwent

I can confirm my next public surgery will be held on Thursday 25 July in Brynmawr.

These surgeries provide members of the public with the opportunity to meet with me to discuss any local policing or crime concerns.

If you would like more information, or to book onto the surgery, please visit the website.

Heddlu Bach Rap

School children from Blaen-Y-Cwm Primary School’s Heddlu Bach Mini Police have launched a rap video to encourage other pupils and their families to be more aware of road safety.

The video, funded by my office, promotes messages including safe parking and speed awareness.

For more information and to see the video, visit the website.

Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group meeting

This week, I attended the Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group meeting in Cardiff.

It was a very informative meeting during which we heard from the new Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Dame Sara Thornton CBE QPM.

We also reviewed progress against the strategic anti-slavery delivery plan and discussed the findings of a report highlighting the review of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, assessing how we can continue to progress this work across Wales.

Torfaen PSB Video

The Torfaen Public Service Board (PSB) this week launched a series of videos highlighting what it, and its partners, have achieved in working to support the PSB’s seven wellbeing objectives.

I was pleased to host the video for objective seven: create safe, confident communities and promote community cohesion.

#PCCsMakingADifference Campaign

The Association of Police and Crime Commissioner’s launched the next campaign in their ‘#PCCsMakingADifference’ series last week.

This month’s campaign centred around victim’s services, so I was delighted to be able to promote the work of Connect Gwent, our victim’s hub.

The service brings together key organisations together under one roof, to ensure that we are always putting the victim first, offering them dedicated support that address their individual need.

If you are a victim, or know someone who is, you can contact Connect Gwent on 0300 123 21 33 for support and advice.
