New Events for Next Term

"Who's in Charge" Course
An 8 week course providing a therapeutic approach for parents/carers of children and young people with special needs (aged 8 - 16), living within West Berkshire, who are violent or aggressive towards their families.
Starting on Wednesday 25th September 2019
Time: 9.45am - 11.45am 
Cost: £20 per person.

ADHD and Medication
A one-off workshop, to be held in Bracknell, for Berkshire parent/carers, pre & post diagnosis, of a child or young person with ADHD. Led by Dr Carsten Vogt of Berkshire CAMHS.
Date: Wednesday 2nd October 2019,
Time: 7pm - 9pm,
Cost: Free to Berkshire families (refundable booking deposit required), £15 non-Berkshire families, £25 practitioners.

Community Support Groups Family Fun Day: Saturday 31st August

We are pleased to report that our new Community Support Groups are benefiting local families. We are running a Family Fun Day at Camp Mohawk for families who attend these groups.
Time: 11am – 4pm, 
Cost: £5 per family (up to 3 children).

PSC Fundraising Ball: Saturday 16th November

Tickets are now available for our Fundraising Ball. Cost: just £45, plus an optional book of ten raffle tickets at £10, with a top prize of £1000 John Lewis Vouchers.

There are a limited number of tickets available, so please book as soon as possible. The deadline for ticket sales is Sunday 3rd November.

Autistic Girls and Young Women Monthly Workshop


These workshops are currently being organised. We hope to bring you workshops on Barriers to Learning, Sleep, Mental Health & Emotional Regulation, and Socialising.

The A Team: Awesome Autism 


Our social sessions for autistic girls are currently being organised. We hope to bring you sessions on Fun Science Experiments, Keeping Safe, Skincare and Christmas Crafts.

Family Events

Parenting Special Children is running a number of events for Berkshire families of children and young people with additional needs and/or disabilities. These have all been made possible, thanks to generous funding by BBC Children in Need.

Community Support Groups Family Fun Day

Sleep Service

Our Sleep Service is offering the following events. Links to details of these can be found by clicking on the event title below.

Sleep Course for Parents/Carers of children and young people


20th & 27th September: 10am - 12pm - Reading
8th & 15th November: 10am - 12pm - Newbury. This course is currently only available to parent/carers of children who attend The Castle School. If any spaces become available these will be published on our website.

Sleep Clinics for Young People


We are now able to offer help to young people with additional needs (age 11 - 19) with their sleep issues. This is an individual session with a Sleep Practitioner and the teen and parent(s) based at our Reading office. Time Out for Special Needs


We are currently organising our next Time Out for Special Needs course to be held in Thatcham for West Berkshire parent/carers. Please keep an eye on our website where details will be published as soon as this event is available.

For West Berkshire families. Starting on Wednesday 25th September: 945am - 11.45am - Thatcham

Support Groups

PSC now runs a number of Support Groups across Berkshire. 

Dads' Support Group
6th August, 3rd September, 1st October, 5th November. These will be available to book shortly.

Community Support Groups

Diagnosis Support and Helpline Service

The Diagnosis Support & Helpline Service offers one to one support, signposting and information to families who have recently received a diagnosis for their child/young person or are awaiting an assessment.

This service can support parent/carers in a variety of ways:

  • - A pre-booked telephone consultation
  • - Ring our Helpline
  • - E-mail conversation
  • - Face to face meetings

We aim to help parent/carers on a 1:1 personal level by:

  • - Offering understanding and support at an emotional and often frustrating time
  • - Reducing parental loneliness and self-blame
  • - Building up the self-esteem of the parent/carer by offering knowledge, useful tips and strategies to manage behaviour
  • - Signposting families to other local and national services
  • - Offering several ways of contacting the service when convenient for the parent/carer (phone, text, email, Social Media)
