Interbeing Sangha

Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place this Sunday, July 14th for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Linda Tucker will be our bell minder this week.
Seeing and Loving

"In bringing to light the interdependence of all phenomena, the meditator comes to see that the lives of all beings are one, and is overcome with compassion for all. When you feel this love you know that your meditation is bearing fruit. Seeing and loving always go together. Seeing and loving are one. Shallow understanding accompanies shallow compassion. Great understanding goes with great compassion.”

― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Sun My Heart

Sangha Library

Featured Book

At our weekly meetings, one of our practices is to read a book together. We are presently reading from The Sun My Heart, sequel to the Miracle of Mindfulness. Using the objects and events of everyday life in Plum Village, Thich Nhat Hanh draws from Buddhist psychology, epistemology, and the world of contemporary literature and science to guide the reader along the path of clarity and understanding. Thay suggests that The Sun My Heart “prefers to be a friend rather than a book....It can give you small moments of joy at any time.”
We have many titles from Thich Nhat Hanh and other authors in our sangha library. Visit us on Sunday evening if you would like to explore the library offerings, and see Sangha Librarian, Jane Owen, if you would like to borrow a book.
Bathing a Newborn Buddha

"I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to go and have a cup of tea, the time will be unpleasant, and not worth living. That would be a pity, for each minute, each second of life is a miracle. The dishes themselves and the fact that I am here washing them are miracles! Each bowl I wash, each poem I compose, each time I invite a bell to sound is a miracle, and each has exactly the same value. One day, while washing a bowl, I felt that my movements were as sacred and respectful as bathing a newborn Buddha."

― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Sun My Heart
Our sangha has two teams helping to share leadership and facilitation of our meetings. Our Bell Minders Team are mindful facilitators for our weekly gatherings, as well as retreats, taking beautiful care of our friends in the practice including the bell. Our Sangha Care Team facilitates sangha care meetings, plans retreats, minds our library and resources, and coordinates outreach. If you are interested in helping with either or both, contact interbeingkingston@gmail.com for more information.
