Fresno State, ex-A.D. Bartko settle wrongful termination claim: Jim Bartko, the former athletic director who brought Jeff Tedford to Fresno State, and the university have settled a claim of wrongful termination stemming from Bartko's 2017 exit. Terms were not made public.
The athletic director's initial, $3 million claim alleged that Fresno State officials peddled false rumors of alcoholism ahead of an ultimatum to resign or be fired.
Undelivered promise: Bartko arrived to Fresno State with close connections to Nike chief Phil Knight, cultivated from years at the University of Oregon, and pitched an ambitious vision for the Bulldogs – including an ambitious, multi-million-dollar plan to modernize Bulldog Stadium.
During his tenure, Bartko also opened up about being a victim childhood sexual abuse.

Setton Pistachios takes on lawyers, offers settlement to employees in wage dispute: Terra Bella-based Setton Farms, the second-largest pistachio grower-processor in America, is facing a class-action suit alleging unpaid wages for the roughly three minutes it takes an employee to walk from the front gate of their facilities to a timeclock.
The company has taken a shrewd move, opting to cut out the lawyers and offer to pay a settlement to the employees direct.
"[We] want to maximize funds to our employees by settling directly with them," the company said in a statement Thursday.
Hourly workers from April 27, 2012 through March 1, 2019 are able to accept the settlement or opt to roll the dice on the class-action suit.

House unanimously OKs China Lake repair funding: A push to get $100 million in funding for earthquake-damaged Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives on Friday to be included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
An amendment offered by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield) would dedicate $100 million funding and fast track repairs to the base, which served as the epicenter of those back-to-back earthquakes on July 4 and 5.
NDAA fight gets spicy: While McCarthy's amendment made it into the House's version of the NDAA, he ultimately voted against it – along with all Republicans – due to a number of "poison pill" amendments aimed at bringing progressive Democrats to vote for it.
Just before the bill was approved, the Democratic-led House killed a motion to increase troop pay.

The Autumn Wind is a mural in central Fresno: A Fresno muralist has once again paid homage to the Valley ties held by the Oakland Raiders.
Muralist Omar "Super" Huerta painted a colorful mural of Oakland Raiders quarterback, and former Fresno State standout, Derek Carr on the side of a building at Blackstone and Belmont avenues.
It adjoins a previous mural Huerta painted of former Raiders coach (and Sanger High Apache great) Tom Flores.
