Asia-Pacific Forestry Week 2019 in Incheon, South Korea

Asia-Pacific Forestry Week 2019 was held on almost one month ago of today. Spanning from 17th to 21st of June, the event gathered stakeholders such as the academia, governments, NGOs and civil societies from different countries and institutions.

IFSA recruited a group of student delegates from countries from the Asia-Pacific region - Australia, Indonesia, Philippines. Pakistan, India, Taiwan and Korea. During APFW, IFSA was led by 45 enthusiastic youth representatives at the events, making sure the presence of youth voice in the largest forestry event of the year in the region.
Not only we learnt from attending countless of interesting workshops, but we also collaborated in organising sessions and events in conjunction with the support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Korea Forest Service (KFS), Environmental Science for Social Change (ESSC), Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture(SEARCA) and many more!

Another highlight for IFSA delegation team at the APFW would be having IFSA youth representatives to speak at several sessions invited by organisations such as the FAO, United Nation Forum on Forests (UNFF) and SEARCA!

IFSA Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting 2019 in South Korea

The Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM )was held in South Korea between 24-30 June. Furthermore, the event was attended by 15 LCs with about 50 participants. The event not only successfully conducted IFSA knowledge, LC issues and concerns and Capacity Development Workshops, but forestry-related lectures and field trips were also part of the programme, as well during the week. Last but not least, the IFSA tradition - IFSA auction night and the cultural night was held during the event. As a result, the participants were overall satisfied with the outcomes of the regional meeting and left Korea happily.

Juliet Owuor on Forest Education at GLF in Bonn

Sustainable land use, Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Climate Agreement are the critical issues that we have to deal with in this century. There is no better way of connecting, sharing, learning and acting, other than global events. The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) took place on 22-23 June 2019 and brought together stakeholders and audiences from across the globe to the Maritim hotel in Bonn, Germany. IFSA was present at this memorable event by partnering in organizing a learning café session titled ‘Diving into the diversity of high-quality landscape education’. The session was a collaboration with the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and Wageningen University and Research (WUR). We presented some activities in collaboration with the IUFRO-IFSA Joint Taskforce on Forest Education as well as the IFSA mentorship toolkit.
