Runners of the Month: Dave Goddard and Andy Simpson

This month's award goes to Dave and Andy for their respective completions of the Lake District’s legendary Bob Graham Round, just a week apart.

They successfully traversed 42 fells to join the exclusive Bob Graham Round 24 Hour Club. An incredible achievement.

Well done Dave and Andy!

Also a special mention to fellow Barrow club members that supported the rounds: James Smith, Ian Cox, Simon Cole, Chris Neil, Andy Simpson, and Andy Lipman on Dave's attempt, and Toni O'Donovan and Adrian Spencer on Andy's attempt.

If you have nominations for runner of the month please send them through to comms@barrowrunners.co.uk by the end of the calendar month. These are then discussed and voted on by the Committee.

Prestwold 10K and Colour Splash

The Club put on another successful Prestwold 10K on Sunday 23rd June. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and people that lent equipment. The Race Committee have had lots of positive feedback about the organisation of the event, and our friendly and encouraging marshals.

A message from Ian Paramore about the Colour Splash...

Thank you to all those barrow Runners who helped out at the above event or took part with their families.

Although numbers were down on prior years those who took part really enjoyed it. Helping to raise funds for the Barrow and Wolds group of Churches is a good cause, they use the funds towards the help in the community they give to children and young mothers, particularly in the early years where some mums understandably need additional help / people to talk to.

It’s a costly affair to stage a ‘Colour Run’ and getting critical numbers is crucial. I would welcome feed back from people about the time of year we help stage this (obviously light evenings are needed if mid week)

I am thinking about moving this to a Sunday afternoon may be late August / early September when hopefully less clashes with school events, assuming we are asked to help and the Committee agree to do so.

Thanks again to the WONDERFUL Barrow Team.

Charnwood Clover Ultra (Saturday 3rd August)

The Charnwood Clover Ultra is a 30 mile tour of Charnwood organised by our very own Cross Country Captain, Andy Price.

It consists of three different loops of approx. 10 miles each, all starting and finishing in the same place in Woodhouse Eaves - hence it looks like a three leaf clover.

It is a self-supported race. You can leave your car at basecamp in Woodhouse Eaves, run a loop, then refill, refuel and even have a change of clothes waiting after every lap.

The course is scenic and hilly, and ideal for new and experience ultra-runners alike. This is a sociable run/walk with no time limits or pressure but it is run entirely at your own risk!

This event will take place on Saturday 3rd August at 8am (if you want to set off with a group). You can do 1, 2 or 3 laps. It’s free to enter with an optional donation to the Club's chosen charity MOVE.

Ask Andrew Price for further info: endurancerunning@mail.com

Within the club we are lucky to have a couple of members as qualified Sports Therapists, Saskia Sharpe and Emily Ault.
