Festival 2019 - What You Told Us!

Thank you to everybody who took the time to complete our post Festival Survey.  The results have been analysed and reviewed by the Committee and a summary is as follows:
  • 96% rated the walks as excellent or very good, while 95% gave a similar rating to the evening event.  In both cases the results are down on the 100% achieved in 2018, but there is nothing from the 57 comments received that gives particular cause for concern.
  • 70% of respondents were between the ages of 55 and 74, only 8 people were under 44 and none under 24.  This is the first occasion that we have included a question on age profile and it will be interesting to see the trend in future years.  Of course it may only demonstrate that 55 - 74 year olds are more likely to complete surveys than other age groups!
  • In terms of feedback the three most popular walks were – Hartham, Box Quarries and Lacock.  The feedback on individual walks in conjunction with the number of bookings helps us determine the programme of walks for future festivals.
  • Analysis of post codes (given during the booking process), showed that for the first time more than 50% of participants came from outside the local area (SN13).  While many others came from other areas of Wiltshire and BANES, we did have visitors from Birmingham, Exeter, Gloucester, London, Plymouth and Warrington.
  • Over half of people who made bookings had not taken part in any of the previous festivals.
  • For the first time "word of mouth" did not feature in the top three most effective methods of publicising the festival.  Instead they were: Festival brochure, Festival mailing list/newsletter and the Festival website.  This is perhaps not suprising given the higher proportion of participants from outside the local area.
  • The experience of booking (by internet/phone) and walk registration was broadly similar to previous years.  We were aware of the odd hiccup with the booking system and The Pound are exploring moving to a more capable and flexible system - hopefully in time for next year!
  • The end of walk experience scored lower than previous years - influenced in large part by the limited opening hours of the cafe at the Springfield Campus.  Although there were some exceptional circumstances this year, it is something that has been noted in previous Festivals and we are already in discussion with the operators of the cafe about possible changes for next year.
  • Use of other facilities in Corsham over the festival weekend was broadly similar to previous years.  Anecdotally, a number of pubs and cafes did a roaring trade from the teams taking part in the Murder Mystery Walk!
Based on this feedback, our view is that the format of the festival is about right.  Clearly there are some tweaks we can make to improve things - but we don't need to consider wholesale change!

Once again thank you for all your feedback.

Open Meeting/Annual General Meeting - Change of Date

We have decided to bring forward the date of the Annual General Meeting to give the new Committee more time to plan the next Festival.  The AGM will now be held in The Methuen at 1900 on Thursday 12th September 2019.  Please come along - this is your opportunity to hear about the work of the Corsham Walking Festival - including other projects beside the annual festival, and to see how you can become involved; whether as a potential walk leader, a volunteer helping over the Festival weekend or as part of the organising committee.

A formal calling notice will be sent out to the Friends of Corsham Walking Festival later in August.  If you want to become a Friend then update your subscription preference using the link below.

Best foot forward
