Community Networks Aotearoa Update
– Ros Rice, Chief Executive

For those who don’t know us – Community Networks Aotearoa (CNA) is the umbrella organisation for local community networks throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Our goal is to empower and strengthen the community sector by supporting community networks across Aotearoa. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to.

First up I want to welcome Sarah Doherty to CNA. Lisa Woods, who has been part of our team for the last year has gone on maternity leave, and we are lucky to have Sarah join us to take over Lisa’s role.  Sarah has vast experience working in both the community sector and government.

In June I attended the Equality Network Hui, the purpose of the day was to hear and collect views on a strategy for the network, especially as we head into an election year. I’m on the network’s Steering Group so I’ll be involved in helping to pull it all together and will keep you updated as this work progresses.

Lastly, before signing off remember to register for our conference! The joint conference of Community Networks Aotearoa and NZ Council of Christian Social Services is on the 27th and 28th August in Wellington. The theme this year is Tātou tātou e (all of us together): The value of relationships in building wellbeing. For more information go to: https://tatoutatoue.nz/

Help your community have their say in this year’s local elections

The following message is from the Electoral Commission:

The local elections are being held in October this year when we choose who will be on our local councils and health boards. It's an important choice because councils and health boards make decisions about services we use every day like hospitals, buses, rubbish collection, parks and pools.

The local elections will be held by postal vote, so people need to be enrolled correctly by 16 August to get their voting papers in the mail.

You can help spread the word in your whānau and local community that you need to be enrolled and listed at the right address to vote in the local elections.

Get posters and brochures to use around your community, such as in your workplace, community centre, church or school, or you can download banners to share online.

For everything you need to know about enrolling for the local elections visit vote.nz
Together, we can make sure that everyone is enrolled and ready to vote!

This event will be held at the office next to the Kaiti supermarket.

Let's Work Together

Our fortnightly newsletters are sent out every second Thursday around midday. Please feel free to share them with your networks and get in touch if you want to be added to the mailing list.

If you would like us to include a notice for your organisation in our TCV Inc. newsletter, please email the relevant information to contact@tcvhub.co.nz by 5pm on the Wednesday before the newsletter goes out to ensure it can be added to Thursday's newsletter. Anything received after this deadline can be posted on our website calendar and highlighted in the following fortnight’s newsletter.
