Dear community,

Тhe month of June was dedicated to planning the future of the æternity blockchain, while at the same time boosting æpps building by improving developer tools, documentation, and the core protocol.

Here is a quick rundown of last month’s highlights, along with news about æternity’s event of the first year - æternity Universe One!

æternity Universe One Conference

On September 20-21, 2019 æternity Universe One will bring together developers, researchers, hackers, UX/UI designers, entrepreneurs, and businesses in the great city of Prague! Apart from two days filled with enlightening talks, Universe One will feature major announcements, workshops, a hackathon and many informal networking opportunities. Development Roadmap Update

Right after successfully executing the second major protocol upgrade, æternity developers gathered for an intensive development workshop. They discussed the main priorities ahead, as well as the tools and features they will be focusing on up until the next scheduled hardfork in September. æternity at WeAreDevelopers World Congress 2019

æternity was well represented during this year’s WeAreDevelopers World Congress in Berlin. Robert Virding (in the photo above)—co-creator of the Erlang language—took the stage to talk about the advantages of functional programming and æternity. Two developers that work with æternity, Milen Radkov and Phillipp Piwovarsky, hosted workshops dedicated to the Sophia ML smart contract language and applying State Channels and Oracles to develop real-world applications. Meanwhile, Dr. Erik Stenman discussed the Fast æternity Transaction Engine (FATE) and how it makes coding easier and safer as opposed to the EVM - check the interview below.

Video Interviews With Developers

Having many developers that work with æternity in one place at the same time was an opportunity to do generate some video content. Thomas Arts shared how he got involved with æternity and why it makes sense to build a blockchain protocol in Erlang. Meanwhile, Ulf Wiger explained the limitations of other state channel solutions and why æternity's approach is one of the most sophisticated implementations in the industry today.

Michal Zajda and Nikita Fuchs also sat down to share their thoughts on the advantages of building a complex blockchain protocol on Erlang, creating better virtual machines for smart contracts, state channels, protocol-integrated native tokens, and future protocol improvements.

Weekly æpp and Core Video Updates

Each Friday æternity’s developers community together for an update call and share written product reports in the Forum. In June, a number of features, æpps, and tools were extensively updated and improved, including æternity's MetaMask-like browser wallet extension Wællet, the Base æpp and the Dev-Suite. On the core protocol side, Stratum support was released after months of testing!

DCARPE Alliance is an accounting, audit, financial reporting and blockchain technology consortium. æternity will collaborate with Auditchain and to offer decentralized data oracles services to DCARPE Assurance and Disclosure Platform.
  • Thanks to the æternity Java SDK, which was developed by long-time supporter Marco Walz, in June the Arkane Network incorporated æternity wallets. Vlad from the æternity team organized a discussion on the advantages of the æternity's Arkane Network wallet, and prepared a short demo of how the wallet can be used to send AE tokens to anyone via email.
  • æternity Ventures invested in ReCheckReCheck is an interface that provides a trustworthy environment for secure business and consumer interactions. A tool that is currently being build on Sophia ML will allow parties to securely co-sign documents, contracts and files. Read the announcement.
  • The æternity crypto foundation launched a blog in Medium and already shared important news about their work in growing the æternity ecosystem and supporting blockchain-related research and development. Check out the blog!
