After five years of operating Central Queensland’s premiere film arts event, founder Luke Graham and festival team announce they are very proud to have the Australian icon as their Festival Patron for the Capricorn Film Festival moving forward.

During his illustrious 40-plus year career, Michael Caton has performed in television, theatre and film both here in Australia and abroad. Born in Monto, Michael became a household name in the ‘70s when he established the popular character of Harry Sullivan in the television series The Sullivans. Other memorable television roles include Ted Taylor in the television series Packed to the Rafters, and Chopper’s father Keith Reid in the tele-movie Chopper.

He played the legendary role of Dale Kerrigan in the much loved (and much quoted) feature film The Castle. Michael was a recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Association of Cinema Operators Australasia for his distinguished career and contribution to the industry; he was awarded the prestigious AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in 2015 for his performance in the critically acclaimed feature film Last Cab to Darwin, also staring Jacki Weaver. 

He has recently completed filming on the feature film RAMS, alongside Sam Neill and Miranda Richardson.

The festival team approached long-time event supporter Michael Montgomery of Morrissey Management, who have been responsible for the wealth of industry professionals attending the Central Queensland event and were eager to assist the festival as it continues to grow and highlight regional filmmakers.

“Morrissey Management has been proud to be a supporter of the Capricorn Film Festival since its inception in 2015 and many of our celebrity clients have immensely enjoyed visiting Central Queensland, participating in the Festival’s events and getting to meet local aspiring filmmakers. We are thrilled Michael Caton has accepted the invitation to become the Festival’s patron and look forward to seeing a new generation of filmmakers emerge”, said Michael Montgomery of Morrissey Management.

Michael will take part in the opening night celebrations, while also leading the judging panel for the CAPS Short Film Festival on the final night.

The 2019 Capricorn Film Festival will run from 20-23^rd November, in Yeppoon, Queensland.
