Summer Reading for Adults
Reading Tree
You might have noticed a new plant in the library this summer – and it's extremely drought tolerant! The "Adult Summer Reading Tree" is front and center on the octagon book display in the new book area of the library. Interested readers can fill out one of the hanging leaves with their name and the author and title of one of their favorite books, then add a sentence or two on the back
about why they love it.  In exchange, participants earn raffle tickets that go towards a grand raffle at the end of the summer. Anyone 14 years and older is welcome to participate.

The Poetry of Aging
Thursday, July 18
7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers

Our aging is a reality that we all must face. The changes inherent in the aging process of mind and body present challenges of adaptation, tolerance, and acceptance.
The poets throughout the ages have written of their experiences and understanding of this process in most eloquent, beautiful, wise, and at times humorous fashions. These poetic expressions help provide greater understanding, solace, and appreciation of this normal phase of life’s journey. Join Psychologist and Sausalito resident Adam Milgram for this special Sausalito Library program at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18. Before his retirement, Adam served as the Executive Director of the Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research on Aging at the University of California, San Diego.

Library Resource
Reading the City
We support the fledgling efforts of a new reading recommendation site, Reading the City

The premise is to choose a city you are interested in learning more about or would like to visit, and the site will provide profile information on that city, along with historical articles, a
book recommendation, and an embedded Google map which flags locations mentioned in the featured title. Inspired by the creator's childhood vacations where her father would map a city on a paper napkin, this site provides a unique opportunity for literary exploration.

Please help to grow this promising resource by recommending a book with detailed descriptions of a travel-worthy city (like Sausalito!).

THIS WEEK: Family Secrets!  The more intimate the bond, the more shocking the secret. Immerse yourself in these tales of assumed identities and hidden pasts. Puzzle out the meaning of these mysteries as you examine the fraught family dynamics of characters throughout time and around the globe.  Might give you a different perspective on your own version of Sunday dinner...
