“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?”             ~ Matt. 6:26

Dear <<Greeting name>>,

Ever had bugs relentlessly swarmed around your head, aiming for ears, eyes, nose, and mouth even with hands wildly batting them away?  Like to drive you insane.  Four weeks ago when we were out in Grayling, it was the mosquitoes, and when we arrived back in Grayling last week, it’s the gnats (with a few rounds of no-see-ums thrown in for good measure). As we joked around the Father’s Day dinner table at Marvin and Judy’s in Grayling, we wondered:  what purpose could all those bugs serve?  We watched the birds and dragonflies dip and swoop through the swarms, and did a little research.  Did you know that a swallow eats 60 bugs per minute or 850 bugs per day, and a dragonfly can eat its own weight in 30 minutes?  We marveled together that In the hordes of bugs, we are reminded of God’s abundant provision.  If He provides so much food for the birds, how much more will He provide for us!

God’s provision of salmon
We were also reminded of God’s provision by placing us in Grayling during one of the last openings for Yukon Kings.  One of the men in the church took James out to drift net (a 150 by 25 foot net with floats on the top and a lead line on the bottom).  The first several drifts brought in only 13 fish, but the last one brought 15 more!  The fish were divided amongst several people, and we ended up with 10 kings (about 70 pounds of wild king salmon) in the freezer!

Guided through the smoke
The hot, dry summer has created a lot of fires in Interior Alaska.  Last week, we spent an extra four days in Grayling because of the low visibility flying conditions across the Interior due to smoke.  Though it was not in the plans, God gave opportunities for some culture and language learning, including an impromptu story session in the Holikachuk language which we hosted in our home.  As part James' helping the tribe with language revitalization, we videoed with a phone.  As we continue this project, a
better camera would sure be a help.

Psalm 135:5-7: “For I know that the LORD is great, and our Lord is above all gods.  Whatever the LORD pleases He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deep places.  He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.”  On Saturday, July 13th, we flew home above and through the smoke, knowing that God is in control of the environment and uses even the smoke for His purposes.

PRAISE THE LORD for good teaching times through Bible Day Camp June 12-15.  Pray for the Word to bring conviction and understanding.  (More pics on our blog-below.)

Good eats ahead!

Mary Deacon is a sweet believer in Grayling.  She shared the Holikachuk stories with us last week, and here she tells some of her life story (in English! ;).

As we take a breath and look at the calendar, it's hard to believe we're halfway through the fleeting season of summer.  The riot of wildflowers and periods of harvest from the land amaze us with the Lord's beauty and provision, even as... (continued here on our blog)
Praise the LORD with us:  a family from our sending church in Oregon is lending us a vehicle for our 3 months of partnership development in the lower 48.  We’ll be able to fly into Portland, and, using some discounts we’ve saved up, it’s not too much different cost-wise than making the 4-5-day drive through Canada.  We're praying for God's timing in providing the needed funds for us to drive home in a replacement ministry vehicle in December.  Use the graphic button below to help the car to its finish line.

HOUSEKEEPING:  EWM, who handles our finances, has been going through some administrative updates that resulted in changes to our giving pages.  All previous links are broken, and regular online givers likely have received a string of confusing emails about our account.  While regular supporters should be straightened out by now (thanks for your patience!), future special gifts need new links.  Therefore, below you will find working links for each of our current project funds.

Thank you for reading our letters and for praying for us!  You are an encouragement!

To the praise of His glory,

James and Shannon and family
AIRCRAFT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT
Our fall travel time in the lower 48 would be an ideal time for the plane to be in the shop.
It would be perfect to have it set up for our return as AFJ modules will be in full swing.
