“Consistency is the key” is a phrase we’ve heard a million times, and for good reason. Being consistent requires the commitment and discipline needed to stick to your goals. It is your key to success.

We are solidly into the dog days of summer, and I think it is critical is to evaluate where I am right now. The middle of summer is a great time to remind ourselves the importance of doing what we need to do day in and day out. I want to keep doing what’s been working and review what’s not working (and do a reset).  I want to stay on track.

A friend and mentor of mine Jim Packard released a book earlier this year called Consistency is the New Currency (with his co-author George Campbell). In it they say consistency is the skill that unleashes all the others and is the key to creating the business and life styles that people dream of. Jim and George are great people and also very different on how they go about setting and achieving goals – that’s one of the things I loved about the book.

The book is a short, very worthwhile read that examines why some people almost always do well when they set goals while others are not consistent and fall back into their old habits. In past articles we’ve talked about Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule, which simply states that 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort.  Because the effort is not always even, find the tasks that produce the most results and focus on them. How will you identify what those tasks are?

At the June 28 Action Plan workshop we had 18 committed business owners and their team members strategize and set goals for both next quarter and year end.  Many of these business owners attend every quarter for a number of reasons: networking, accountability and focusing on goals. This desire for consistency benefits them as they learn to not just set goals but to review and if necessary to reset.

Part of the Action Plan workshop discusses identifying what is one thing you can do today to move your goals forward consistently. Perhaps it’s signing up for my Finish Strong session on October 4, 2019. (Use code Earlybird for a discount).
