Discovery at Nics is a space to learn, explore, and discover more about God, your neighbour, and yourself. The first Sunday will be our family service and the third we will continue our Theology for All series.

July 21st - Theology for All
"God's Poetry: The Stranger Side of Scripture and Why it Matters"
Guest Speaker: Richard Rohlfing
At least 35-40% of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) can be described as poetry or poetic, with 30 of the 39 books containing important or extensive sections of poetry. Yet, what difference does this make? Does this poetry matter theologically…and, if so, how? In this short talk we will discuss several features of Biblical Hebrew poetry with scriptural examples and reflect on how these characteristics work – to involve us more deeply and affectively, to reveal both our hearts and God’s in ways that are at once troubling and ultimately wonderful, life-giving.

Not meeting in August - Family Service

St. Nics Daily Prayer Diary

Sunday – Pray for our clergy and readers – especially for our Vicar Arun Arora and our Curates Maeve Sherlock and Claire Elwood.

Monday – Pray for the care of God’s creation. For the eco group and the work of those who are passionate about being stewards of God’s earth. Pray for the work of those Christian organisations who challenge us to act responsibly.

Tuesday – For Kate Swann and all those who contribute to the work of the children and families team. For parents seeking to raise their children in the faith of Christ. For our Young adults, for the pressures they face as disciples in a fast changing world.

That they are enabled to live as disciples in places of learning and that their lives may reflect the love of God.

Thursday – Pray for members of our prayer ministry team that they will draw closer to God so that others can be drawn closer to God in prayer.

Friday – Pray for Unity amongst the Church in Durham and for the work of the churches across Durham. For Durham Christian Partnership and Durham Churches Together. For the Deanery of Durham.
