2. Global Citiizenship and School Partnerships, Glasgow 28th Aug, Edinburgh 29th Aug
Work in an education setting and interested in finding out more about Global Citizenship, Learning for Sustainability and school partnerships?  Sessions will include practical advice from local teachers and Development Education Centre staff on how schools can help embed Learning for Sustainability across the curriculum.

3. Messy Maths: An outdoor, playful approach, Edinburgh, 30th August
In this practical course (half of which will take place outdoors), you will explore the rationale behind using outdoor play as a key approach to building the foundations of maths, along with a host of practical ways of making this happen.

4.  Making Connections through Learning for Sustainability, 13 Sept
This facilitated online course for 3-18 yrs educators is offered in Scotland over 6 weeks (Level 2), 10 weeks (Level 3) or towards GTCS Professional Recognition (Level 4) as part of the new international Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning  programme.

6. Carbon Literary Training for the Further and Higher Education Sector, Edinburgh, 17th September
A Carbon Literacy course is a day's worth of learning on climate change and is a great way to ensure you or your staff have the knowledge and skills to get involved in your organisation's low carbon journey.

7. Common Cause: Understanding values to change the world, University of Edinburgh, 8th October 
This full day of training will help you understand values, and how you can tap into them in how you communicate with others to create different responses to sustainability challenges.  This workshop will help you learn to use values to inform effective action.

Community Sector

8. Carbon Literacy for Communities - Thurso, 21st and 22nd August
Over the two-days we’ll cover the basics of climate science, look at current and likely impacts of a changing climate, explore how to communicate climate change, look at where carbon emissions come from and explore ways to encourage and support communities to take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

1. Learning for Sustainability facilitation and leadership Course, Stroud, 7 - 8th Sept and November
Sustainability requires us to live and work differently and this involves social learning in facilitated groups where new ideas and practices can be created together. This course is about enabling you to run creative, facilitated events and workshops for change.T

1. Loose Parts Play Toolkit
This is the latest edition of the loose parts play toolkit just published, with an emphasis on caring for the environment and thinking sustainably. 

2. WWF Resources on Sustainability 
WWF have partnered with Times Education Supplement to create a series of new resources for teachers and leaders of 7-11 year olds, who want to put ESD at the heart of their school. The first two resources, ‘Oceans and Plastics Pollution’ and ‘An Introduction to Biomimicry: learning from nature’ are now available free to download.

3. SEEd Resources
Sustainability and Environmental Education has a large list of resources for different ESD topics and links to related organisations. 

4. Citizens’ Rights and Brexit Resource Pack
In partnership with the European Parliament, Young Citizens have produced a new classroom resource which focuses on the following five areas: Brexit the UK and the EU, Freedom of movement, Worker’s rights, Health care and social security and Higher education.

5. Ideas for Waste Projects in Your Community
Zero Waste Scotland supports the work of community groups through various projects and funding programmes, They have put together this page with some ideas of waste-related projects you might want to consider for a community project. 

1. Call for Circular Economy Bill
Scottish Environment LINK has published a call for a strong circular economy bill for Scotland and they are inviting organisations to sign-up to this.  It is essential for us if we are to meet SDG 12 as well as contributing to a number of the other goals.

2. Winners of short film Competition
The winners of the SNH  “why invest in nature?” short film competition last month, were recently announced.The overall winner was Gregory Vaux’s short film “The Nature of Farming” and can be seen, along with the other category winners and specially commended videos on the competition’s YouTube playlist.

Did you know our Local School Nature Grants scheme is still open and ready for you to apply? Simply fill in our online application to be in with a chance of securing £500 worth of outdoor resources for your school and specialist training.

4. Students Organising for Sustainability 
The National Union of Students (NUS), has taken their work to a new international level by creating a brand new non-profit organization. Launched in April, Students Organizing for Sustainability (SOS) International is co-founded with Danish and Irish national students’ unions.

It aims to get half of all national unions of students across Europe collaborating and innovating on sustainability by 2022, and afterwards reach out to the rest of the world.

5. Global Climate Letter 
100 further and higher education institutions across the globe have already signed the Global Climate Letter and we would like to encourage more members to show their support for this international initiative and collectively step up to the challenge.
 

6. New Bottling Scheme
The University of St Andrews has pioneered a new green bottling scheme that is projected to save 40,000 plastic bottles from entering circulation each year. In partnership with BRITA, the University has installed a glass bottling system to provide bottled water, and have also installed self-service still and sparkling water dispensing units in its three retail cafés.

7. International Green Gown Awards Winners
The winners of the 2019 International Green Gown Awards were announced on 10th July 2019  in New York as part of the United Nations High Level Political Forum. The Awards provide benchmarks for excellence and are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We would like to congratulate Glasgow Kelvin College and University of Edinburgh for being Highly Commended in the Student Engagement, and Sustainability Institution of the Year categories respectively.

1.  Europe Regional Meeting, Greece,  13-14 Sept 2019
Under the theme 'Climate Change, Sustainable Agriculture, and Food Security', the meeting will provide a regional platform to discuss, debate and launch activities that reinforce the fundamental role that education plays in achieving a sustainable future in the region.
 

2. Lessons learned from five years of the GAP
60 Global Action Programme (GAP) Key Partners met in Ha Noi to discuss lessons learned from five years of GAP implementation. The meeting also served as an opportunity to obtain suggestions for the implementation of the new ESD for 2030 framework.

3. Learning and Teaching for Peaceful and Sustainable Societies
Bringing together more than 350 experts, practitioners and policy-makers from 100 countries for a two-day forum which explored the theme of Learning and teaching for peaceful and sustainable societies, the 2019 UNESCO forum on ESD and Global Citizenship Education, in Ha Noi, Viet Nam focused on the cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural dimensions of ESD and GCED in pre-primary, primary and secondary education.

4. Guidebook on Education for Sustainable Development for Educators: Effective teaching and learning in teacher education institutions in Africa

This guide has been conceived as a tool to mainstream sustainability into all aspects of teacher education in Africa, with useful information concerning teaching, learning and assessment approaches to help achieve the ESD goals.

5. COPERNICUS Alliance Hosts Virtual Conference on Higher Education for Sustainable Development, 9-11 September

The COPERNICUS Alliance, the European Network on Higher Education for Sustainable Development, is organising its first online conference entitled 'Reaching out for the stars: Consolidating the HESD constellation'. And better yet – it is free of charge and carbon-free!

6. A New Collaboration Charter for the RCEs of the UK and Ireland 

Collaboration was the main theme for a group of RCEs based in the UK and Ireland when they gathered for a meeting at Swansea University, Wales (hosted by RCE Cymru/Wales) in early July 2019. A key outcome of the meeting was to develop a charter to facilitate further collaboration and partnership.

1. Be Kind, Curious and Brave - A Survival Guide to the 21st Century
This report from Towards Global Learning Goals, a non-profit organisation, argues that a revolution is needed in terms of how and what humans learn. It sets out nine global learning goals, and highlighting champions who will help deliver the transformation of learning.

2. Progress towards the Global Goals in the University and College sector
The second SDG Accord Report was launched recently by the Global Alliance – a partnership of the world’s universities, colleges and sustainability networks.

3. Infrastructure Officer, Project Delivery / Project Delivery Support, Sustrans, Edinburgh

Sustrans is the charity making it easier for people to walk and cycle.  Sustrans Scotland is seeking to recruit a number of people with a passion for place and urban design to join our Infrastructure team.
