WHAT'S GOING ON
- This week, the Turner Construction Company finished the $10.6 million expansion and renovation of the University of Memphis' athletic training facility. The project is the first of two phases for U of M and features a multi-purpose room, team training room, rehab and recovery stations, hot and cold therapy pools, and coaches' locker room. Turner will continue as construction manager and general contractor for phase two, the 90,000-square-foot indoor practice field.
- The 2019 Manufacturing Scorecard from Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) says Tennessee earns a B for manufacturing and C+ for logistics. The state maintained its grades in Benefits Costs ("A"); Manufacturing Industry, Global Position, and Liability Gap ("B"); Diversification ("B-"); Logistics ("C+"); Productivity and Innovation and Tax Climate ("C"); and Human Capital ("D"). - Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, CommercialCafe looked at the fastest growing jobs over the last 10 years. It shows that Health Specialties Teachers represent the fastest growing occupation in Tennessee, with a 432 percent increase over the last 10 years. It also says that 35.7 percent of all employees in the state work in business, 20.7 percent in the industrial sector, 12.9 percent in healthcare, and 1.9 percent in IT. Read more here.

- Il Hwan Kim (pictured), assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in the College of Medicine at UTHSC, was awarded more than $1.53 million from the National Institute of Health to identify neural circuit dysfunction that could lead to behavioral difficulties in several mental disorders.
- Tom Nenon, provost and executive vice president of University of Memphis, joined the Peer Power Foundation board of directors.

- Allen & Hoshall added four new hires to its team: Nate Taylor (mechanical engineer), Matt Cannon (mechanical designer), and Andrew Robinson and Paul Montray III (structural designers).
- Eclectic Eye won first place in the 2019 America’s Finest Optical Retailer contest by INVISION.
