August 2019

We have an abundance of babies, including puppies, chicks, ducklings and poults. Plus a handful of hens that are still broody, waiting on their babies to hatch. Everybody wants to be a mama!

Great Pyrenees Puppies

We have a litter of five puppies looking for good homes! If you or anyone you know is interested in a puppy, please let us know. We'd be happy to answer any questions you have. There is some more information below in this email, and more information about the parent dogs on our website.

More About Our Livestock Guardian Dogs

Early on we lost a lot of chickens to foxes, especially hungry mamas in the spring who were very bold and not scared of people. We lost all but two of our first flock of ducks to a pack of coyotes in a matter of seconds. I have also heard bobcats in the area.

We haven’t lost any animals to predators since we have had our Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs roaming the property. They are protective and very loving and learn to watch over any animal that we introduce to them and show them is ours to take care of, which now also includes a mini-cow, turkeys and a rabbit that runs all over the place!

Great Pyrenees are also wonderful family pets. Our dogs are extremely gentle and tolerant of children’s antics. When bonded to their humans, they will protect them as well as livestock. For example, when I went out to lock the chicken coops after dark last night, both the dogs escorted me and took up positions around the main poultry area until I was finished.

Having Pyrs has completed our homestead. We love to talk about Pyrs, so feel free to get in touch with any questions you have!
