I just texted Carly Comando. I asked her if she'd write the music to the next video version of "everyday".

On January 11, 2020 I will have taken a self portrait every day for 20 years. I plan to release the time-lapse of all of those photos as a video on YouTube that day.

My interest in the passage of time and it's subtle effect on people and places as well as the introduction of digital photographic technology is the reason I often cite for starting my "everyday" project.

But the main inspiration came from the 1995 film Smoke written by Paul Auster and Directed by Wayne Wang. The scene where Auggie shows Paul his photo album.

I remember never feeling more sad.

	PAUL
		(Astonished)
	They're all the same.

		AUGGIE
		(Smiling proudly)
That's right. More than four thousand pictures
of the same place. The corner of 3rd Street and
Seventh Avenue at eight o'clock in the morning.
Four thousand straight days in all kinds of
	weather.
		(Pause)
	That's why I can never take a vacation. I've
got to be in my spot every morning. Every
morning in the same spot at the same time.

		PAUL
(At a loss. Turns a page,
		 then another page)
I've never seen anything like it.

		AUGGIE
It's my project. What you'd call my life's
	work.

		PAUL
(Puts down the album and picks up
another. Flips through the pages and
finds more of the same. Shakes his
		 head in bafflement)
	Amazing.
		(Trying to be polite)
I'm not sure I get it, though. I mean, how did
you ever come up with the idea to do this ...
	this project?

		AUGGIE
I don't know, it just came to me. It's my
corner, after all. It's just one little part of
the world, but things happen there, too, just
like everywhere else. It's a record of my
	little spot.

		PAUL
		(Flipping through the album,
		 still shaking his head)
	It's kind of overwhelming.

		AUGGIE
		(Still smiling)
You'll never get it if you don't slow down,
	my friend.

		PAUL
	What do you mean?

		AUGGIE
I mean, you're going too fast. You're hardly
	even looking at the pictures.

		PAUL
	But they're all the same.

		AUGGIE
They're all the same, but each one is different
from every other one. You've got your bright
mornings and your dark mornings. You've got
your summer light and your autumn light. You've
got your weekdays and your weekends. You've
got your people in overcoats and galoshes,
and you've got your people in shorts and
	T-shirts. Sometimes the same people,
sometimes different ones. And sometimes the
different ones become the same, and the same
ones disappear. The earth revolves around the
sun, and every day the light from the sun hits
the earth at a different angle.

		PAUL
(Looks up from the album at AUGGIE)
	Slow down, huh?

		AUGGIE
Yeah, that's what I'd recommend. You know how
it is. Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, time
	creeps on its petty pace.

Besides "everyday" I work on a number of other "obsessive" or "serial" photography projects.

Sometime around 2006/2007 I started photographing the Domino Sugar Factory from the corner of S.1 and Kent in Williamsburg Brooklyn. I used to shoot film on point and shoot cameras and I'd always end the roll with a shot of this building.

From the corner of South 1. and Kent Ave.

I own www.dominosugarfactory.com and I'd be willing to sell it to "One South First" / Two Trees for 500K. Let me know if you know anyone and let's make a deal.

I started photographing this corner of River and N.1st Street in Brooklyn early 2013. Search instagram #riverandn1 for a grid of this corner over time.

I start a lot of these projects on my phone and after I think they "work" I start photographing them with a "real" camera.

Since moving upstate I have found numerous locations that I visit regularly.
I found this perfect landscape in my front yard and started photographing a couple of years ago.
I am currently organizing it under the name #lmbrlnd on Instagram.

This grid of photographs is now on view at VSOP Projects in Greenport Long Island.
I call this one The River.

I actually have even more serial/obsessive type photo projects I am not posting here but check back for a part 2 in the future.

I also know I need to go into more detail with "everyday" both in terms of the history of that project and the future of it. I have been writing something in my head about that for the past 15 years. I might be ready soon.

Listen: Reply All - #147 The Woman in the Air Conditioner - One of the best podcasts out there. If you don't listen to this show you should. This actually isn't one of the better episodes BUT... In this episode they go and visit ProSoundEffects.com and they mention they are on Kent and N1 in Brooklyn. If you GO HERE you will se the EXACT location I take the photos of River and N1 street. Crazy coincidence I heard while working on this email.

Watch: Succession - It's the best show on TV right now. Best writing. Best story. Don't be an asshole. Just watch it.

Read: Can New York City Live Without Foie Gras? We May Soon Find Out - I just learned that Sullivan County NY (home of Lumberland) produces 80 percent of the Foie Gras in the US. NYC is trying to ban it and will effectively shut these farms down. WOMP WOMP. Find a better product that doesn't rely on the torture of animals, "farmers".

Have a great week!
