WHAT TO EXPECT

What a Sunday worship (10:00 am) we have prepared for the EBPC community! The youth confirmation class will serve the bread they are baking as part of their Confirmation process when we celebrate Communion this Sunday. Joining us as our musical guest is Melissa Shippen Burrows. Together, we will sing some old traditional spirituals as well as a beautiful rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer."

Melissa holds both Master and Bachelor of Music degrees in Vocal Performance from The Juilliard School. She is the mother of two of our children in the preschool. Her dramatic soprano voice accompanied by Nate will match the sweet aroma of the fresh bread. Her presence with us along with the youth walking on their journey of the confirmation decision making process has me thinking about the theme of how do we find and use the unique voice God has given each of us. It may not be with singing, but each of us have gifts to be shared with one another.  My meditation for this Sunday is “Finding Your Voice is a Beautiful Thing.”  As background, I encourage you to read Psalm 98 and Mark 14:1-9

Adult Sunday school takes place at 9:00 a.m. led by Mike Magee.  Parents of our youth confirmand and mentors meet immediately following this Sunday’s service.

Presbyterian Women's Bible Study
Begins Sept. 6 @ 9:30 a.m.

This year our study is LOVE CARVED IN STONE—A Fresh Look at the Ten Commandments.  Author Eugenia Gamble invites us into a new understanding of the new kind of community God was intending for those who had been wandering in the wilderness, delivered from slavery. A new beauty and  freedom was to be found in a principled way of life, knowing that God was with them and continues with us.  The Commandments have sometimes been called God's love letter to this new community---God's longing for a way to bring harmony and joy in love.  This fresh look at much-studied passages continues to enlighten and encourage today. This study takes on the definition of the commandments as the “Ten Words”.  Contact: Martha Wolfe at 615-373-5979.
