Minus 70% of CO2 emissions and minus 40% of energy consumption – this positive balance sheet of successful sustainability management was reported by the Vienna Airport in its updated sustainability reporting. The ambitious goal – by 2030, the airport wants to achieve CO2 neutrality, despite further growth. In order to achieve this goal, they are working consistently on the eco-program.

 

Drivers of electric vehicles will pay 75 per cent less for a 30-minute drop-off or pick up in comparison to other vehicles. London Luton Airport has begun a new trial in which drivers of electric vehicles benefit from reduced drop-off and pick-up charges. The trial demonstrates the airport’s efforts in encouraging the use of sustainable methods of transport. It will run from 1 August until 30 September 2019, and the reduced rate will be brought in on a permanent basis if deemed successful.

In light of growing air traffic and societal and technological developments, the momentum for a reform of the Single European Sky is growing. Therefore, the European Commission together with the Finnish presidency is organising a conference to contribute to this momentum and consider the latest trends and developments in the context of ongoing and future digitalization.

Spanish airport operator Aena SME has awarded in a tender a contract for the construction and commissioning of a 7.5-MW solar photovoltaic system at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Spanish daily El Pais said the PV system will stretch across 22 hectares at the Madrid airport. The annual output is estimated at 11.7 GWh, which equals 16% of the consumption of the terminals 1, 2 and 3.
Strong growth on leisure routes including Mykonos, Skiathos and Florence helped tip London City Airport to its busiest-ever month in July 2019. A total of 490,819 passengers chose London’s most central airport, 4% up (+19,300) compared to July 2018, which previously held the 32-year record. It means the airport is on track to welcome over 5 million annual passengers by the end of the year for the first time.
