Prepped for School Program
Packs 900 Backpacks

On Tuesday, July 26, a group of 25 volunteers from Las Vegas gathered at Richard Harris Law Firm to pack 900 backpacks with school supplies for Robert E. Lake Elementary School, a low-income school. The backpacks included everything from pencils to glue sticks to notebooks everything they need for the entire school year.

The Prepped for School campaign launched in 2018 and with the success of the program we decided to make it an annual event. Last year, the HSICF worked with FoodieFit and other local businesses to provide Robert E. Lake Elementary with backpacks, school supplies and a campus improvement project.

This year, we have partnered again with Foodie Fit and Richard Harris Law Firm to ensure that all students are equipped with the necessary supplies to have a great academic year. The distribution event will take place on August 13 in Las Vegas at Robert E. Lake Elementary school.

Thank you to all of sponsors, donors and volunteers for your compassion in making a difference. Prepped for School would not be possible without you!

Every month our schools award a child in each classroom the honor of student of the month. This is determined by attendance, participation and completed schoolwork. As a reward the student chosen receives a special gift such as crayons or an extra notebook - a luxury for these children. Last month, our Meserani School in Tanzania selected Jackline Oltingildi and Rita Loishiye as our students of the month.

Jackline Oltingildi is a 7 year old little girl who lives about 2.5 miles from school. She lives with her mother and father where she helps with housework. Her favorite color is red and her favorite subject in school is science. When she grows up she wants to become a teacher and help children just like her learn. Her favorite thing about the Meserani school is the beautiful flowers planted around the playground.

Rita Loishiye is a 5 year old little girl who also loves the color red. Her favorite subject in school is English and when she grows up she wants to become a doctor. She lives about an hour away from school with her grandmother. At home she helps her grandmother clean the house. Her favorite thing about the Meserani school is all the wonderful books she gets to read at school.

These children are not unlike our own. They love flowers and reading. They have hopes and dreams that sound a lot like our children's. However, they were born into poverty. Our educational programs are aimed to even the playing field. Along with the free education, they each receive a free meal every day at school and access to a doctor on staff.

With your support we can continue to support these children as they strive to pull themselves out of poverty through a quality education. Consider becoming a monthly donor and help us stop hunger and fight illiteracy.
