BAND NEWS AND UPDATES

BAND CAMP

Congratulations on making it through band camp!  The kids had a great week and learned a lot. It was exciting to see so many parents and family members and alumni band members at the preview show last Friday. Thanks to all the parents who came out during the week and helped with games and water day and the cookout and traffic and handing out bandages and ice and ibuprofen.  We couldn't do it without you! We hope you have enjoyed these last days of summer vacation.

PRACTICE, PICK UP AND PARKING

Remember after school practice schedule begins when school begins. Practices end at 5 pm, and as you may now know, it takes the kids 15 minutes or more after practice to be ready to head home. Please plan accordingly for pick up. If you arrive early and wait, please do so in a parking space (the back and sides of the senior lot is a good option). If you come later, you may be able to pull through and pick up at the entrance of the school. But this area has to keep moving and is not for parking and waiting.

VOLUNTEERS

THANK YOU to everyone who donated items, time and help during band camp!!!  We appreciate your support in making it a success for the students. With the start of school approaching, we have many more opportunities for parents to get involved.  We have many ways for you to volunteer, in whatever capacity your schedule permits.

We currently have the following opportunities:

  • Volunteers during after school practice: we will need parent volunteers to help monitor the practice sessions on Tue & Thurs afternoons.  We will be sending out online sign up sheets. This is a great way to watch the kids practice and see the progress of the show!

  • Uniform Committee is looking for anyone who can sew to help with minor alterations and repairs to band and colorguard uniforms.

  • Photography: We could use one or two more photographers to work at games and competitions to take and share pictures

The Uniform committee is also looking for a group of volunteers to form a Washing Team.  This is a new volunteer initiative and can be done in your own home. The students uniforms need to be cleaned just a few times during marching season, as a result of the weather conditions as well as field conditions.  We are looking for a few parents from each section to take on this task for their group. Detailed instructions will be provided.

If you are interested in helping with any of the above mentioned opportunities, please email chaperones@northgwinnettband.org

Once again, thank you for your support and we look forward to working with all of you this year!

EQUIPMENT TEAM HELP

Do you have the vehicle and the experience to pull a large trailer? Minimum truck size is a half ton pick up truck with a brake controller.  Trailers range in weight from 4000 to 9500 pounds. We could use a couple more parents to pull a trailer to away games and competitions. Email chrisrcangelosi@gmail.com.
