News from GDS Church

We are delighted to welcome you to our morning service in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a visitor, please make yourself known to the welcome team or the minister.

This Sunday our service will be led by our Children & Families Outreach Worker, Rachel Cooney and will be celebrating the conclusion of our Seaside Jam Holiday Club.

Events for your diary

Saturday, 17th August - Book Sale and Coffee Morning
GDS, alongside the Solace Café is planning a Book Sale and Coffee Morning at Diadem on Saturday 17th August from 10 - 1pm.
The proceeds will be split evenly, GDS to go towards the running costs of Diadem and the Solace Café to fund classes for people in Recovery and those with mental health issues in the community.

Great if you can help in any way:
Setting up the books on the Friday evening
Setting up tables, serving or donating home baking
Coming along and bringing friends

A great opportunity for us to meet some people from the Stenhouse community and pick up some bargain books. If you are able to help or need more information please speak to Barbara Roberts.

Information of note

JAM Club Children:
We invite the children to sit in the front row of the church, on the piano side, with our Youth Group Leaders each Sunday. We welcome any visiting children to join us at the front. Please speak with our Youth, Children and Families Worker, Rachel, if you are visiting!

GDS Diadem Just Giving Page:
We are now in the process of making GDS Diadem ready to host the Shelter for years to come. The most important improvement that the facilities at Diadem require is an upgrade of the kitchen to a commercial kitchen standard. This will make preparing meals for up to 75 sleepers each night far easier for the many volunteer catering teams. In order to start fundraising for this project, Susan kay has kindly set up a Just Giving page. If you would like to support the project to turn GDS Diadem into a home for the Care Shelter in a financial way, please consider donating via this page. www.justgiving.com/campaign/diadem

Summer at Saltyard:
Please note that, from 2nd July to the 10th August, Saltyard will be open from 10am-4pm each day, rather than the usual 9-5 on weekdays. In previous years, Saltyard has closed for a Summer Break. This year we have decided to stay open all through the Summer, so please come and enjoy the café with your friends and family. Also, if you have ever thought about volunteering at Saltyard, there’s no better time to give it a try! The Team would really value a few extra willing hands to help cover staff holidays over the Summer.

Tools With A Mission:
The latest TWAM newsletter is now available from the table at the back of the church. this edition focuses on TWAM’s work providing sewing machines to Africa.

Claire Diedhou (Orr) Newsletter:
The July edition of Claire’s monthly newsletter is still available at the back of the church.

Holiday Club Support:
As you will already know, we are running a Summer Holiday Club again this year for primary aged children. As ever, we like to offer this as a free club for any local children to attend. Therefore, any support that you feel you could offer to help facilitate the Holiday Club would be gratefully received. There are a number of ways you could help:
-    A financial donation to help cover costs and to enable us to keep the Holiday Clubs free for all.
-    Prayer support is essential, please pray for the children who attended, that God would continue to work in their lives and would bring to completion the work He has begun in them this week.

Change of date.
Will elders please note that the date of the next meeting of the Kirk Session will be Tuesday, 17th September. At our last meeting we put 27th August in our diaries but you can now make other plans for that evening!
Only the date has changed, the time and place remain the same - 7.30pm in the small hall at GDS Gorgie. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, Tricia.
