Another great year for Summer Reading Club
We have had a wonderful summer with our SRC Coordinator Katie Welsh and Assistant Cameryn Harris, and were sad to say goodbye to these fantastic leaders. Katie and Cameryn presented some amazing programs for kids and teens, inspiring participants to learn, explore and play through books and library events.
We would like to thank Mayor Gary Ander for joining our end of summer party and handing out medals to club members who had completed 50 days of reading. Some of the proud medal winners are shown below.
If you were unable to make the medal ceremony, or are still working on completing your 50 days of reading, you can come in to the library anytime until the end of September to get your certificate of completion and your medal. Congratulations to everyone who participated in Summer Reading Club for making books and literacy an ongoing part of your life.

Community Feedback - Survey and Focus Groups
Thank you to everyone who participated in our online survey and our focus groups in August. We had 349 responses to our online survey and hosted 3 focus groups with a diverse range of community members.
The feedback is greatly appreciated and will help to inform our strategic plans moving forward. Much of the requested feedback was about the use of the new Annex and the programs and services that might take place there. Clearly the new Annex space is well used and our respondents had many innovative ideas for ways the library can contribute to making life better for Bowen Islanders.
We are analyzing the feedback and will report back with highlights of the feedback received in the coming months.

During this experiential workshop, we will explore our personal role in supporting the revival of the values that worked so beautifully in Indigenous villages for thousands of years, as well as the effects of residential schools and Canada's policy of assimilation. This free full-day workshop is thought- and emotion-provoking, and geared toward solutions rather than recrimination.
Kathi Camilleri has a Master's in Leadership Studies and 23 years of experience in providing healing programs and consultation with aboriginal communities, health providers, social workers, governments and educators. Kathi is Cree/Métis, and her work has been inspired by Jann Derrick's teachings of "The Circle and the Box" and by many Elders' teachings.
Knowing Our Place is an initiative brought to you by the Bowen Island Public Library, the Hearth—Arts on Bowen, and Pauline Le Bel. The aim is to learn our true history with Indigenous peoples and to foster mutually-enhancing relationships.
