<<First Name>>,

Over the weekend, two horrific mass murders took place in our country, one in El Paso,Texas, and one in Dayton, Ohio. Mass shootings have become a consistent part of the American story, but by no means should we accept this as normal.

The foundation of these acts is the intersection of white supremacy, toxic masculinity, lax gun laws and too much money in politics. It is clear that President Trump and his GOP supporters are unwilling to take the steps necessary to curb mass shootings. In cases like Trump's rallies, they even encourage violent acts.

The GOP foot-dragging and hand wringing in the wake of tragedy has become routine, but these problems can be overcome. It is Congress and the GOP that continue to fail the victims of gun violence. They must be pressured into doing their jobs or replaced if they refuse. We will fail in these efforts only if we decide there is nothing that can be done.

Earlier this year, the House passed strong gun safety legislation, and the bill is awaiting action in the Senate. But Sen. Mitch McConnell is stopping reasonable legislation from being considered. It is up to us to convince the Senate to work on commonsense gun reforms to protect people across our country.

Here are a few things you can do right now:
  • Check in with Moms Demand Action and find ways to volunteer locally and get involved.
  • Flipping the Senate in 2020 is absolutely critical to ending gun violence. Consider making a donation to Senate Democratic candidates here.
  • Donate to Ditch Mitch, a group dedicating to ousting Sen. McConnell in the 2020 election.
  • Call your senators! The Senate may be on recess, but they can still speak out. Demand that they, their Democratic colleagues and any Republican senators who will join call on Sen. McConnell to cancel the Senate's recess and bring up the gun safety bills that have already passed the House.

Sen. Van Hollen: 202.224.4654

And call our House members and tell them that Trump's support of white supremacists and calls for violence against sitting members of Congress and other American citizens is another reason to impeach him

Rep. Trone: 202.225.2721
Rep. Sarbanes: 202.225.4016

Only in failing to act, do we lose this fight.
