Dear Friends of Mindfulness Travels,
Welcome to August! We normally don't send out a newsletter so soon after a previous newsletter has been sent, so I will keep this message relatively brief. One remaining space is now available for our Spain retreat, which will be held from September 15 to 22, 2019. We will be co-teaching with our friend Lavinia Plonka amidst the beauty of a UNESCO mountain biosphere reserve. If this is the retreat for you, please contact us within the next week to secure your space. The complete details about this retreat can be found at this link (please also continue reading for a memorable quote about "sauntering"):
Spain: Moving with Balance, Vitality and Joy
About "Sauntering"...
I recently came upon this wonderful quote by the iconic naturalist John Muir, on the linguistic origin—and benefits—of "sauntering". It reminds me of mindful walking as well as the sort of excursions we will take in Spain:
"Hiking - I don't like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, 'A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them."
