VOTE for Badock's Wood!
Voting closes at
12 Noon on Monday 19th August

Fields in Trust champions and supports our parks and green spaces.   Back in May they launched their Summer of Parks celebration by releasing the Green Space Index, their innovative new barometer of publicly accessible park and green space provision. 364 nominations were made for UK's Best Park 2019 and Badock’s Wood is one of those nominated.

Fields in Trust says that with this backdrop of the love communities across the country are showing for their local parks and green spaces this summer, the UK's Best Park 2019 award will not just be showcasing the parks to receive the highest vote tallies in each Home Nation. Each park to place in the top 20% of the total nominations will receive "Much Loved" status, recognising the support it has received this summer from those who use and love it.

Each "Much Loved" park will receive a formal certificate denoting its status. The park's nominator for UK's Best Park 2019 will also receive acknowledgement that their favourite local green space is amongst the nation's favourites.  [FOBW does not know who nominated Badock's Wood but they clearly love it as do we!]

Fields in Trust says that the unprecedented love shown for our local parks throughout the Summer of Parks is further proof of what we all inherently know: that green spaces are good, do good and need to be protected for good.

Voting for UK's Best Park 2019 will close at noon on Monday 19th August.

Litter Pick and River Clean-up Report
On Saturday 14th July a small team of four (plus one dog) collected litter along the length of the River Trym as it flows through Badock's Wood. In addition to picking lots of rubbish which had wound itself round tree roots or become embedded in woody debris in the stream, we also removed some of the larger branches which impede the flow of the river.
Five full bags of rubbish and one pink scooter were collected.

Our thanks to Clare Bishop - pictured - who has organised litter picking for the last year or two.  She is moving on to live in Totnes and we wish her well.  Sarah Hudson will be taking over the litter group.

To get mailings about litter picking events please email fobwlitter@yahoo.co.uk

Donations
Just to let you know....
We don't currently charge for membership of the Friends, but do welcome donations towards our costs.  Most of our walks leaders are kind enough to offer their time free but we also have to pay for room hire, leaflets, posters, etc and we also make some donations to organisations whose members kindly lead walks.  Where we have to pay for room hire, walks leaders, etc., we do ask that attendees make a donation.
You can donate at most of our events and walks - there is usually a collecting jar - alternatively if you would like to make a one off or regular donation to the group please reply to this email and we will let you have the address  / bank details.  Thank you.
