On Mondays we start the week with a daily Examen reflection and prayer. This can be done a the beginning of the day, the end of the day or both.

"The Daily Examen is a technique of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to detect God’s presence and discern his direction for us. The Examen is an ancient practice in the Church that can help us see God’s hand at work in our whole experience." source

Waiting in the Middle

“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake.” Psalm 79:9

1) Today, did I feel heartsick? “My joy is gone, grief is upon me, my heart is sick.” (Jeremiah 8:18). What moments of my day made me feel grieved? What moments robbed me of my joy?

2) Jesus is my mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). What do I want to share with Jesus about my day? What aspect of my relationship with God today do I need Jesus to intercede on my behalf about?

3) What relationships with others did I invest in today? In what ways was I faithful to those people? In what ways was I unfaithful to them? (Luke 16:9-11)

A few more Examen steps to practice:
1. Become aware of God’s presence.
2. Review the day with gratitude.
3. Pay attention to your emotions.
4. Choose one feature of the day and pray from it.
5. Look toward tomorrow.
