As the summer speeds by, I hope you and yours are doing well. I was overwhelmed by how many people turned out for Herbert’s service of witness to the resurrection last Saturday, well over two hundred. I have never heard such beautiful hymn singing! But I think that two thirds of those present were alums of one of Herbert’s choirs. The service was a wonderful send-off to a wonderful man who brought much love, joy, and inspiring music to so many. We will miss his smiling face and look forward to glad reunion someday.

I want to thank again Karen Davis and Maryneil Catlin, daughters of Neill and Mary Sinclair, for their generous gift to the church in loving memory of their parents’ decades of service to our church. The gift is being used to refurbish the parlor and offices and for new video equipment for the sanctuary. The work is underway and should be finished by Labor Day. I look forward to a dedication in September.

In the meantime, we are making preparations for Rally Day that signals the start to another program and ministry year at Trinity beginning on September 8. The session will be meeting on August 10 for its annual planning meeting to set priority goals. I want to thank again the elders and deacons in the class of 2019 for their faithful service: elders, Cheryl Anderson, Jerry Baildon, Tom Carrigan, and Chris Catalano, and deacons, Muriel Pepe (moderator), Bev Faasse, and Jenny Lhotsky. They all did a great joy, and I enjoyed serving with them. And welcome to our class of 2022: elders, Cheryl Anderson, Chris Farrow, Dale Overcash, and Bill Raudenbush and deacons, Linda Breazeale, Beth Dixon, and Jenny Lhotsky.

I also want to thank Nancy Elder and Frank Breazeale for their leadership on the summer musical last Sunday and also Ed Greene for set design and Becky Everett for video crew. And, of course, the cast did an outstanding except for that corny guy with the bow tie! On August 11 we will have a special music Sunday in worship when we will sing many favorite hymns and hear a little history on their origin.

I continue to give thanks for all that you do for our church and give thanks to God for the privilege of being your pastor. May God continue to bless us and make us a blessing to others.

Ever grateful,
David
