The annual Summer picnic was held on July 17th at the O’connor’s. 44 people were in attendance sharing good food and good conversation. Our guest speaker, Ellen Green Bush, talked about the influence of big money in politics. Ellen is a member of American Progress, which is currently trying to bring a new amendment to the constitution. This amendment would allow states to make their own rules about big money in politics. Jeff Sites also spoke at the picnic. Jeff recently announced that he will be running for the House of Representatives to challenge Jim Jordan. Jeff lives and works in Lima. Jeff stated that his main goal in this campaign is to protect the Affordable Care Act.

LCDP participated in the Logan County Fair this past month. A number of fair goers stopped by our booth resulting in thoughtful questions and a few debates. We also had three people register to vote. The pin the tail on the donkey continues to be a big hit with the kids. It even drew the attention of the Clark County Democrats, who asked to borrow it for their fair booth.

Joe Reed and Mandie Rudolph were nominated and approved to be on the Executive Committee for the party.

The Finance Committee will be meeting to set next years budget and goals for the party.

In a recent USA Today/Ipsos Poll(that you can read here), a majority of Independent voters say Trump’s tweets telling Rep. Ilhan Omar to “go back where they came from” were offensive and even go so far as to say it is un-American. The latest count from the Logan County Board of Elections, 18,491 voters had not declared a party affiliation. Getting involved can be as easy as talking to your neighbors. Let your friends and neighbors know that this is not the country we want.
