Grab 'n Go Kit

Penny Flip Scarf

This pattern is knit from side to side in the linen stitch (one of our favorite stitches!).  It creates a beautiful fabric that looks almost handwoven, and provides a lovely way to play with different color and fiber combinations. This kit includes one skein of Rylie and Me and one skein of Winter Silk (changed randomly, or with the flip of a penny!), which are custom dyed separately for each kit.

And our Cowl of the Month Class Series continues...
From June through November, we are offering a class on a particular cowl featuring one of our exclusive hand-dyed yarns. Classes will generally be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, 10:30am-12:30pm.  Pre-register for as many as you’d like, or check for availability closer to each date.

Coming up next:

Cowl of the Month #4: Hint of Autumn with Fran Jepperson.

This is quite possibly the most luxurious cowl in this series, made with our Cashmere Cloud yarn. This cowl, with its kerchief styling that drapes perfectly around the neck without the bulk or fiddly ends of a full-on shawl, is sure to be a favorite go-to for warding off the chill of early fall mornings. Hint of Autumn begins with just 3 stitches, is worked flat for the first few inches, and then joined in the round and progresses into a beautiful but simple lace edge.

Materials include 2 skeins Cashmere Cloud and 24″ US5 needles. This is a 1-session class and will meet Saturday, 9/21, 10:30am-12:30pm. Class fee is $25.

Beyond Beginning Beading
 with Emily McNeil.

One of the joys of bead knitting is determining where and how to place beads even when a pattern doesn’t necessarily call for them — because who doesn’t love a little extra sparkle now and again? Join us for a fun class in taking your beading to the next level and learn the (not so intricate!) intricacies of placing beads on ssks, k2togs, and more. We will mostly be working on a swatch, but will discuss different lace patterns that lend themselves to beading.

Required materials include 1 skein Halo or other fingering-weight yarn, US 6 needles, a .75mm crochet hook, and 6/0 beads.  This is a 1-session class and will meet Thursday, August 29th, 5:30-7:30pm.  Class fee is $25.

Carol's Tip Corner

Many knitters hate doing gauge swatches.  And I understand why. Unless you do a very large swatch (about 10 inches square) you'll run into the problem of creating a gauge swatch where you are paying attention to your knitting and never get into your zen state where knitting becomes automatic.  This, I believe, is one reason that the gauge on many swatches turns out to be different from your knitted product's gauge.

I have a trick I've used fairly successfully (its not a perfect solution) to overcome my annoyance with gauge swatches.  I start my garment at the sleeve. This means that I begin knitting the real thing with needles I've chosen from experience or I'm following pattern suggestions. After a few inches into the main part of the sleeve, I calculate my gauge.  If I'm off pattern gauge, I'll be able to figure out what to do to get gauge and I'll just unknit what I've done.  If I'm on gauge, I'm part way through my project.  Yippee!
