Here’s what’s happening in DC.

Have you been to Quarter Market yet? We keep hearing the food hall inside Ballston Quarter mall just can’t stop adding some of the best local businesses to its lineup. From seafood bar The Local Oyster and vegan-friendly scoop shop Ice Cream Jubilee to soon-to-open Bartaco, this is definitely no ordinary mall food court. Not to mention, there’s an Insta-worthy lounge, outdoor amphitheater, and corn hole. But, that’s not the only exciting news: you still have one more day to enter our giveaway for the chance to win free honeygrow and Fitt merch, plus, there's so much going on in the DC health and fitness scene this week. Read on for all the details!

💦 #SWEATSQUAD

A tough workout is always easier when you’ve got a friend cheering you on. VIDA Fitness thinks so, too! For the month of August, all locations are holding Fitness Friday, where any member can invite a friend to come workout, free of charge. You’ll start your weekend off sweaty and strong by pushing each other to reach new goals. Now that sounds like a FriYAY!

📦 BEND + STRETCH

If you walked by Capitol Hill’s Rooted Pilates and noticed some moving boxes, do not fear! The calm, inviting studio isn’t saying goodbye, it’s saying hello to a new, bigger space right down the street. It’s scheduled to open today, so if you’ve been wanting to drop in and try a class, now’s the perfect time.

🌮 TACO ’BOUT A SAD DAY

We’re sorry to say that one of our favorite taco spots has closed up shop. Fox Loves Taco, a mainstay for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free eats, said a final farewell last week with an Instagram post announcing its immediate closure. The Brookland community and the entire DC area will miss you! You can still catch the owners at Little Red Fox market and Sugar Fox bakery in Chevy Chase.

🚨 NEW STUDIO ALERT!

We’re mad excited to announce the opening of MADabolic’s new location on H Street, an area that’s quickly becoming a go-to spot for all kinds of workouts. Momentum, anaerobic activity, and durability combine to create the studio’s original conditioning classes. If you’re ready to get your sweat on, check out the website for a ton of opening specials.

⏱ FAST FOOD, FRESH

With a boom in healthy, quick-service eateries popping up in DC, it takes a lot for a new spot to get noticed. But, LEON has figured it out and plans to open a second location in Mount Vernon Triangle on August 13, where you’ll be able to grab gluten-free, vegetarian, and even vegan varieties of your fast food favorites. In the meantime, stop by LEON on L Street, to try out their recently released GF baked nuggets.

🥗 LUNCH BREAK

Speaking of solid stops for quick eats, modern Mediterranean restaurant Rōti is also making moves in the city. You can now head to lunch at their newly opened Dupont location. Oh, and check out their Instagram for $5 off your first order, whether it’s a vegan bowl, keto salad, or gluten-free plate!

🍳 In Other News

What if you took one of DC’s best chefs and asked them to create a dream brunch menu? Well, someone did. And now Kwame Onwuachi’s Philly Wing Fry in Union Market is open at 9am to serve you the breakfast sandwiches of your dreams. Choose to add bacon, steak, or mushrooms to your egg and cheese sandwiches, and don’t forget the fully-loaded tater tots! If you’ve watched Top Chef, you know Kwame from season 13. And if you didn’t watch, we’re still pretty sure you know who he is. He’s been taking the DC food scene by storm with his splurge-worthy restaurant Kith/Kin at The Wharf. Kwame also just won a James Beard award for Rising Star Chef of the Year, was named one of Food & Wine magazine’s Best New Chefs of 2019. We can’t wait to dig into his newest menu!
