Adventures...

edition 032
Hi <<First Name>>

It's holiday time. Switch off, take stock, or perhaps get ahead while the rest are lounging.

Whatever we're doing, the tension will eventually show: Work or Play; Creating vs Capturing; Employee to Entrepreneur; Fitting In or Standing Out.

A lot of my recent notes, observations, and decisions boil down to working through the tension: the trade-offs, contradictions, and opportunity costs we all have to tussle with.

The tension can drive us forward as well as hold us back. It's fascinating - and I'm doing a project around it.

As for what the project is; you'll have to wait until next time. After all, I don't want to lessen the tension.

I hope you enjoy this month's dispatch. and as always I'd love to hear where you're spending your time right now. Just hit reply.

Thanks for reading.

// MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT

Inside Eric Prydz's new stage show

5 tons of lasers, domes, LEDs and other electronic delights.

I'd love to see more articles like this, especially with interactive elements where us regular folk can have a play around.

How music festivals respond to the climate crisis

It's good to see this issue being featured more prominently in niche media.

Next month's digest will be going further into this and sustainability more broadly.

Note: the eagle-eyed among you may have noticed The Tension between the two articles above. The 5-ton festival structure ain't good for the climate. Wicked problems indeed.

// CULTURE

The dark side of the gig economy

An inconvenient truth. I'm not sure how prevalent these services are globally but for a lot of NYC residents they're ubiquitous to the point of being staples.

Here's what happens under the visor.

The consequences of Berlin's rapid gentrification

There's a lot in here - inequality, displacement, culture, digitisation, history.

It's still an issue I find tricky to untangle, and again, there's a lot of tension.

Parquet Courts

This month I've spent quite a bit of time working from and wandering the sparse, arid, arty climes that are Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood.

What better time and place than to load up a dose of Parquet Courts' low-slung post-punk sounds...

// FOOTNOTES

Other things I've been up to this month:

- Podcast planning. My dulcet tones will soon be returning to a digital device near you.

- Hiding this down here as it's a little weird - will anyone will read it. On Tour Again.

This is an email digest from me - Howard. I'm an educator, coach and project builder based in NYC.

This monthly dispatch collates a few of the things I've found interesting across education, entrepreneurship, and entertainment.
